This is all good insight right now. I've been testing moving around to different coffee shops (am maybe going to create a spreadsheet now haha) to get a vibe and if they have outlets. I also enjoyed the library but it's early voting right now so it's a little busy.

I'm still inclined to make the jump to a coworking space in the new year. I love what Linsey said that it's a dedicated spot for creating content

This gives you have an idea of how work with them will go down the line, especially if they pushed this much.

I think it's a huge red flag for someone to say "you're trying to earn our business...." and ask for something for free like that.

Yes, you do want business but the right business who will understand your value. It doesn't sound like they understand that at all.

Love this thread! It's very much a common problem.

Before freelancing I didn't have this in my contract in terms of content I create. Design friends encouraged me to incorporate "use" for content for both parties. I'm looking into adding this now.

Sort of same boat? With ghostwriting I usually grab a testimonial from my client and have some of my assignments kept if any prospects want more experience upon request.

Thanks, Erik! The only time I've seen or heard a person asking for a passport was at a full-time role at larger organizations. I've never seen it as a contractor. Thank you for your insights here

Questioning it further for sure. A friend passed on the info to me, so I trusted the contact, etc. and process so far (only sent along my portfolio for now and did a quick chat on what they were looking for). But definitely got my guard up and saw the passport no. section as a red flag.

I have a different experience working from home. I prefer mixing up my week, and I'm not 100% at my best when I work all week from home. I try to mix up working from home or 1x a week from a coworking space, library, or coffee shop.

I like working on different projects and being around different energy to match it if that makes sense.

@Debs thank you for sharing that insight! I had my original portfolio on Notion too and was wondering how I should set it up easier for people.

Also, because I was waffling about what to do with the ghost posts, I reached out to my ghostwriter editor to get a testimonial. not sure if you're still ghostwriting but thought that was good to have on hand in case someone asked when I sent over a url.

Definitely a struggle, Esther. And I appreciate you posting publicly. I think your response was really well done!

He posed a valid question, but it also doesn't mean that a niche will remove you from the running. There is overlap and the ability to speak at such a breadth (I think) does help bring more out in your own content.

For me personally, I try to send a few pieces in my followup thank you to give a concrete idea of how I fit their voice/style/industry.
