I'm a marketer in Vancouver but to all of these points, I work remotely for an agency. Even though we're fully remote, we are technically based in Vancouver but 99% of our clients are American

Assuming you’re not the one who designated this a hybrid position I would ask the person who did: Would you rather compromise on talent or compromise on having them in the office a couple times a week? And if it’s neither, you’re just going to have to pay more

@Dan J. Levy it's a hybrid position, so they need to be able to be in the office a couple times a week

@Kelly - do you have a mandate to only hire in Vancouver?

Totally agree. We have had a lot of challenges hiring good marketers in Vancouver.

YUP. I know and have hired a lot of great Vancouver marketers. But many are working for US or Toronto-based companies these days. I live in Montreal and it's the same story over here 😕

Hey all! I'm a Montrealer but used to spend a lot of time in Vancouver as one of the first marketing hires at Unbounce. And I love sushi, skiing, and complaining about real estate. Okay if I hang?

Yet another non-Vancouverite here 🥲 Victoria for me, but I was in Vancouver for a show last weekend... does that count?

Thanks for all of these insights, everyone! Super nice to hear another perspective.

I’ve seen a lot of Vancouver companies struggle with growth in the past 10 years I’ve lived here and whether this is being blamed on marketing teams or not I don’t know.
I’d also say that the marketing teams I worked on were very diplomatic and risk-adverse which stalled campaigns, potentially giving marketing teams a bad rep.
And to Eric’s point: yeah, a lot of folks will be working remotely for US companies because often the salary is literally double the YVR market, making top-talent hard to find.

Hi everyone! Another non-Vancouver Vancouverite here (Port Moody lol). Question for you all - we're hiring a couple of marketers right now and we've had some trouble finding good candidates. A recruiter told us its "well-known that it's really hard to find good marketers in Vancouver." Is this true? Have ya'll heard this before?

Whoop whoop! A little dream come true. 👋 from the WeWork on Burrard!

👋 Hi all! Port Moody over here, but I'm in the office downtown Vancouver a few days a week

I should rename this channel to vancouver-adjacent

In vancouver but not vancouver proper because of course it’s too expensive (burnaby crew!), hi everybody!

I'm rarely in Vancouver but coming back for some family events this summer, if there's anything on I'm July/August, I'd love to meet up!

I'm in Winnipeg but I lived in the Lower Mainland for 10 years (up until 2 months ago) so I'm staking a claim to this group, lol
Plus I'm planning on visiting Vancouver as often as I can and would love to meet up with folks!

Hello from Vancouver… right near the airport, I can almost touch the planes.

And I'm in Seattle but have promised to come to a Vancouver meetup just to meet @Claire Beveridge and @Eric Doty (Superpath) in the flesh!

@Claire Beveridge also not quite Vancouver (Salt Spring) but also close enough! Not really a big content marketing community here — more poets and memoir writers…..

I'm not quite in Vancouver, but I figure I'm close enough! Looking forward to hearing all the local-ish chatter from folks here 😀

Ooh I didn't know you were in Vancouver @Jessica McKeil 🙌

We were planning a meetup and it kind of fell through. But we're definitely going to do one this year!

Dannnng. I didn’t know about it then!
