My friend Nadia had a post for Zapier featured in AI overviews recently and wrote about her experience, she may be good to talk to!

#freelance-talk - October 03, 2024 at 02:19 PM

A local startup founder I've been talking to and nurturing. It made want to throw up in my mouth a little to read this, but I'd hate to say it, he might have a point. Thoughts?

#freelance-talk - September 20, 2024 at 12:00 PM

So I'm sending out my first cold pitches for my new gen AI adoption services! I'm hitting up content leads/heads of content/marketing managers and offering to train their content and marketing teams to use AI. This is a service I'm 99% sure I can do successfully. I did write an ebook about it after all.

I'm starting with a test list of 25 leads in the HR tech space, and 3-5 contacts for each one. I think that should be enough to gauge whether this is a service people want. If not, I'll have to revise my pitch or my offer, or go back to the drawing board altogether.

Or ya know. Start practicing my panhandling skills?

#freelance-talk - September 17, 2024 at 01:21 PM

I always wanted to go!

#freelance-talk - September 02, 2024 at 09:07 PM

I pitched a client of mine in the HR space an idea for an ebook and they liked it! How much is a good pricing for an ebook project? I thought a base fee + a performance-based compensation. The ebook would be about ~5,000 words and the deadline would be late September/early October.

Made this little carousel about where to start with ChatGPT!

#freelance-talk - August 23, 2024 at 12:44 PM

I'm thinking of making some pivots after recent outreach efforts haven't been bearing fruit. I've been pitching leads for months and have 1 new client to show for it. Time to change something.

I had a coaching call with a mentor and we think the problem isn't with my pitch, but that I need to spend more time nurturing. So for the next few weeks I'll work on connecting with prospects on LinkedIn and building a relationship over time - sharing jokes, articles, referencing mutual connections - and then offering my services after we've interacted a few times. If they don't respond to me on LinkedIn, I follow up with the standard cold email pitch.

I'm also thinking of trying new niches to target. Mental health and wellness, ecommerce, travel maybe.

Today I even had the idea of connecting with founders and CEOs on LinkedIn and offering to write their LinkedIn posts. Some copywriters make pretty good money doing that.

Goal is to close 1-2 more clients by the end of September. My coaches and mentors think it's completely doable. If that doesn't work, I may have to work something else out.

Start stripping on OnlyFans? Take up mungbean farming? Join a monastery and become a monk? Buy a shotgun and blow my brains out? Open to ideas.

Hey Nicole, I'm interested! Will fill out the form. 🙂

#freelance-talk - August 19, 2024 at 02:28 PM

I have an intake form that asks them questions about their content marketing strategy and business goals. I end with the question "what would your brand be like as a person?"

I'll also come to the intake meeting with tailored content ideas to pitch to the client. That also usually helps.

Here's what my intake form looks like if you're curious!

I think future search engines are going to look a lot like Perplexity.ai and that a Google breakup will accelerate this change. My take.

#general - August 15, 2024 at 02:11 PM

So OpenAI is rolling out a search feature for ChatGPT, there's a waitlist for it.

Marketers, what do you think this means for SEO?

#content-collab - August 07, 2024 at 06:58 PM

I'm writing an article for a client in the HR space about How to hire and manage freelancers (if you haven't done it before). The article focuses on how to onboard freelancers and integrate them into your team if you don't already have the internal documentation and processes for doing so. I'd like to get insight from HR experts and people who have worked with freelancers. If you're interested, please DM for more details!

@Christopher Morris maybe not short-term, no. Google still has the market share of the search industry. But the transition is already happening. I'd give it maybe a few years, at least.

#general - July 30, 2024 at 11:00 AM

After using Perplexity and CoPilot, I think generative engine optimization (GEO) might be where the future is headed.

People are sick of Google and they're looking for alternatives. I think the future of SEO might be about optimizing for AI-powered search tools and less about Google. Thoughts?

#general - July 16, 2024 at 11:55 AM

Apparently Lattice tried to give AI "Workers' rights" and their employees weren't having it.

Just think. In a few years I might have to give Bradbury workers' comp when I overload his tokens and cause a service interruption.

#content-collab - July 15, 2024 at 07:19 PM

Looking for SMEs to quote for an article about using ChatGPT in HR!

#content-collab - July 15, 2024 at 01:00 PM

I'm writing a blog post for a client in the HR space about compliance best practices in AI for recruiting and I'm looking for SME quotes for anyone in the HR space. Real-life examples or case-studies preferred. Thank you!

#content-collab - July 08, 2024 at 05:00 PM

I'm writing a thought leadership opinion piece for my LinkedIn called "Back to the Office is Stupid and Dangerous - and We Need to Talk About Why." It's a critique of back to the office rhetoric and a call-to-action for leaders to support remote work arrangements.

I'd like to get some SME quotes from some fellow remote workers! DM me for details.

#general - June 25, 2024 at 01:00 PM

I recently talked to a friend and mentor - a marketing consultant who works with AI. She thinks I make good content but that I should be doing LinkedIn newsletters instead of articles because I'd get more traction that way - and it would be less work to promote it.

It's an interesting idea and one worth considering if it would get me more visibility. But if I do it, I'd have to commit to the change for 6+ months.

I'd also have to rethink my ebook sales funnel (currently I have about 15 MailChimp subs from ebook purchases and pop-up form sign ups, and put out a newsletter once weekly).

Your thoughts?

#freelance-talk - June 20, 2024 at 11:00 AM

So, I have a potential client in the pipeline. One of a handful of hot leads I've gotten from local networking. Very keen to work together. I took her out for drinks last week and discussed potential projects, and it went really well.

I put together a proposal doc with some options for our first project, and showed her a couple web designers who can help with the initial website and blog setup.

Her response was that she didn't want to pay more than one person and that the pricing didn't fit her budget. I told her I'd reach out in a while to give her some time to think it over, and that I have room to negotiate on my end.

Here's what I'm thinking of doing next:

• Bundling in the website/blog setup in with my pricing and overseeing that part of the work myself so she doesn't have to
• Giving her discounts for buying multiple services (blog content creation and newsletter creation)
• Starting off with just 2 posts so we can see how well we work together
All of which would amount to a much smaller buy-in.

I'm gonna give it a week and then reach out again.

What do you guys think? How should I play this?

#freelance-gigs - June 19, 2024 at 08:47 PM

I might know someone! I'll put you in touch

#general - June 18, 2024 at 01:00 PM

Apparently the "in" thing on LinkedIn is to add the word "Fractional" to whatever it is you do at the beginning of your LinkedIn headline. So I'm gonna try that and see if it improves my search impressions and profile visits over 30 days. What do I have to lose by trying?

#promo - June 17, 2024 at 04:35 PM

I recently posted my first in a series of ChatGPT experiments! In this experiment, I have ChatGPT write the same blog post introduction in different voices (scientist, professor, content marketer, comedian, student).

Wonderful news, I almost have a new client!

Client is in the HR SaaS space, which is one of the niches I work in. 2 posts per week, $400 per post (~1,000 words). If it goes through, I'll be back to baseline and on track to success.

It hasn't been secured yet, we still need to sign an IC agreement and she needs to review my quote internally, but I feel very optimistic.

I am SO close to having all my pitching for the last couple months pay off. 🤏

If my business survives this, I need to make pitching new clients a core part of my business, not something I do sporadically when I have time for it.

#promo - June 05, 2024 at 08:00 PM

A lot of people are in the SEO content marketing space are worried about whether AI is going to gun for their jobs. I should know. I'm one of them.

At the end of the year, I want to be able to look back at this moment in time and say that AI was the best thing to ever happen to me.

I can't change how generative AI is going to impact my skillset or my industry. What I CAN do is learn as much about AI as I possibly can.

That's why I wrote this guide to ChatGPT for content marketing. It's a guide for my fellow writers on how to use this technology to automate the routine and mundane tasks in your workflows and free up more time to make better content.

I'm testing out a new coupon code. Use BRADBURY50 at checkout to get a copy 50% off, and DM me to tell me if it works!

Thank you @Mark Burdon for the referral! 🙌

@Ilija Jakovljevic I wrote a guide for freelance writers about using ChatGPT for content marketing and it comes with a library of prompts for using it for research, content strategy etc. I'd also like to recommend my friend Lauren's course on Decoding AI. For a basic grounding in prompt engineering, I recommend the Prompt Engineering for ChatGPT course on Coursera by Vanderbuilt University.

Hope this helps!

Made a draft for my first case study!

Question, do I need to ask the client's permission before posting it to LinkedIn necessarily? I link to several key pages on their website throughout the content.

Also, should I go with "How I Helped [Client]" or "How I Helped This HR SaaS Platform" for the title?

#general - May 03, 2024 at 01:00 PM

Ta-daaa! I made my first LinkedIn carousel. ✨

I'm starting to suspect that the only people who actually make money copywriting are people who sell courses on how to start a career in copywriting.

Who else? 🥲

#general - April 19, 2024 at 02:53 PM

@Erik Dietrich that's fair enough. Maybe I should make the copy more tailored to my ICP and their problems (e.g. getting website traffic and customers).

I did make a few assumptions with my coffee. My ideal clients are SaaS founders, tech startups, and content marketing agency managers, e.g. people who already understand the value of SEO and content marketing and have the resources to allocate to that. Should I make that more explicit in the copy?

#general - April 18, 2024 at 01:00 PM

I spent today rewriting my LinkedIn bio and profile based on a mentor and coach's advice, so I can make sure it's optimized for my ideal clients before I continue to send out more pitches that get ignored. In my next iteration of outreach I want to try targeting HR SaaS platforms like some of my most recent clients.

Give me some feedback. Make me cry. Break my fragile white, male ego. Scream "f***ing donkey!" at me like Gordon Ramsay.

Roast my LinkedIn profile. 🔥

#general - April 12, 2024 at 04:29 PM

GROOOOAN. The prospect I'm trying to woo over is already trying to lowball me. Not a good sign.

Prospect is having budget issues. I offered to lower my rates from $700 per post to $500 + 10% commission, and $400 for the trial. (I'd be willing to go down to $400/15% if I have to). I even proposed content ideas and mapped them out on a spreadsheet.

They counter with $250 per post + 20% commission. Then the CEO said "you're trying to earn our business. Can't you do the trial for free?"

Work for free? I'm a 33 year old man, not a 20 year old college intern. I have bills to pay.

But obviously I didn't say that. I went with a non-committal "Um, let me think about that, maybe we can meet in the middle."

I now have until Monday or Tuesday to decide how desperate I am for work. Should I try to work with them, or tell him to go fudge himself?

#content-collab - April 12, 2024 at 02:01 PM

Morning everyone! ☕ For anyone in the HR and recruitment space: Have you used ChatGPT or other AI tools for candidate shortlisting or to filter and rank resumes? I wanna talk to you!

I'm writing an article for a client in the HR space about How to Use ChatGPT for Resume Screening and Candidate Screening. The post is a how-to/tutorial, complete with steps to take and prompts. The tutorial is made for a non tech-savvy audience and uses ChatGPT-3.5, rather than GPT-4.

Please DM if you'd like to be quoted, and I'll send a list of questions!

#general - April 10, 2024 at 01:45 AM

So, the general vibe I'm getting here is: Don't panic, but maybe diversify my client base into other niches beyond tech, and look for a mix of US and international clients.

That about right, more or less?

#freelance-gigs - April 10, 2024 at 12:59 AM

A lot of freelance writers are really freaked out right now that AI is going to take away their jobs and clients.

I don't blame them. About a year ago I felt the same way. That is, until I started experimenting with ChatGPT and building it into my content marketing workflows. Now it saves me a whole afternoon per day, and gives me more time to be a writer.

Curious about how it can make life easier for you as a freelance writer? Check out my guide on ChatGPT for content marketing and use the code BRADBURY50 to get a copy 50% off. 🙂

AI is the future, like it or not. I say work with it, not against it.

Jasper.AI is hosting a webinar series for how to use it in various marketing roles e.g. content and SEO, demand generation, paid media etc. I went to the first one today and it was pretty neat! They're having these all week long.

#general - April 05, 2024 at 01:54 PM

I've been reading a lot of stuff lately about how the US tech industry is imploding. Figures, I guess it was only a matter of time. But it has me rethinking my outreach strategy.

I've been reaching out to US-based B2B SaaS companies and I had several people tell me they don't have the budget for content.

If the US really is headed for collapse, which it may well be, it might be time for me to start looking for clients in international markets like the UK and Europe. Which is a thing I can do because I'm a self-employed freelancer.

That might be doable actually. One of my big-ticket clients for the last year was based in the UK, and I had several clients based in mainland Europe.

I could try it with a test list of 50 prospects and see what kind of response I get.

US-based freelancers, do you have international clients? How's it working out for you?
