I'm in Boston!

Not sure they exist anymore

#general - May 16, 2024 at 01:27 PM

My advice is to watch the stuff on her YouTube and if you find it useful, invest in her coaching. It's about more than simply advice, but the way its presented. I heard the same things from a bunch of people before I heard @Lizzie Davey put them in a way that makes sense to me. https://www.youtube.com/@SarahGree

Is anyone else in despair of ever getting work again?

#freelance-talk - May 10, 2024 at 05:34 PM

@Mark Burdon I've been a freelance writer for 12 years. I have a portfolio on my own website, I've written loads of articles about things I care about on LinkedIn and my blog and my substack. I follow loads of creators, I've probably spent about $1500 on courses and God-only-knows how many free webinars. I'm in many Slack communities -- including one devoted to climate marketing -- and LinkedIn groups. I sent five LOIs a day for months -- over 400. Agencies don't respond to me any more than businesses do. I haven't had occasional work in months and I haven't had regular work in a year. I really don't think this is about my mindset. Also, I do get outside a lot. I go for a lot of walks. I just spent four days in New Hampshire with friends, not thinking about jobs at all. I know you mean well, but you don't know anything about me or my experience.

How do you stay motivated when there's no work anywhere?

#general - May 09, 2024 at 08:42 PM

There aren't any jobs anymore and you're surprised people are upset?

#freelance-talk - April 18, 2024 at 06:34 PM

How do you figure out your unique selling proposition?

#general - April 05, 2024 at 01:59 PM

if the US tech industry implodes, what makes you think Europe will be spared?

#general - April 04, 2024 at 01:42 PM

Maybe someone who doesn't know how exchange rates work?

#freelance-talk - April 03, 2024 at 03:16 PM

Looks like HARO is getting shut down https://www.swordandthescript.com/2024/04/goodbye-haro/

#freelance-talk - April 03, 2024 at 02:06 PM

I try to never use HARO if I can avoid it. I once had a project with a deadline coming up and it took them a week to approve the post, so I only had a few days left to get a reply and do the interview.

#freelance-gigs - April 03, 2024 at 02:03 PM

Is it 8-10 a week, 8-10 a month or 5 a month?

#freelance-talk - March 21, 2024 at 03:05 PM

I don't have any clients. I'm trying to figure out their pain points so I can target my LinkedIn content and offers to them.

#freelance-talk - March 18, 2024 at 08:41 PM

How do you figure out your ideal clients' pain points?

#intros - March 08, 2024 at 06:23 PM

Welcome! I'm in Boston, too!

#general - March 06, 2024 at 08:28 PM

Eraserhead

#freelance-talk - March 06, 2024 at 04:53 PM

I have not been succesful in getting work from agencies. I don't even send LOIs to them anymore.

#freelance-talk - March 05, 2024 at 05:56 PM

The content marketing salary report really depresses me. I've been struggling along for years and all these people are averaging over $100k a year? How? I'd be over the moon to make a quarter of that this year.

#freelance-talk - February 27, 2024 at 04:59 PM

I don't think Ed is being alarmist at all. The SPJ is hosting a webinar tomorrow evening https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urnactivity:7168261545112625152?updateEntity[…]pdate%3A%28V2%2Curn%3Ali%3Aactivity%3A7168261545112625152%29

Check out this important post by Ed Gandia about the Department of Labor's independent contractor rules https://www.linkedin.com/posts/edgandia_freelancersfightback-independentcontractors-a[…]336169193472-1GlA?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop

#freelance-talk - February 01, 2024 at 07:45 PM

@Jake Safane Mind if I pick your brain? What kind of companies are your clients and where are you finding them? I'm not finding anything in ther sustainability space.

#general - February 01, 2024 at 05:13 PM

Why does it seem like every marketing job that gets posted is either an unpaid internship or a CMO role? Where's the in-between?

#freelance-talk - February 01, 2024 at 05:11 PM

And I've gotten a grand total of two assignments in a year and I'm perpetually posting about how I can't find any work. I don't have any advice except to find a different niche.

#freelance-talk - January 26, 2024 at 03:59 PM

And I want to contribute in Slack or LinkedIn, I just never feel like I have anything to add. I don't seem to know anything worth sharing when everyone's talking about KPIs and SEO and everything

#freelance-talk - January 26, 2024 at 03:49 PM

I write about climate tech/sustainability and I was doing dogital twins, but I wasn't finding any work in it, and I was running out of companies I could find

#freelance-talk - January 25, 2024 at 10:47 PM

Anything I can do and people will hire me for at this point

#freelance-talk - January 25, 2024 at 06:24 PM

Is there any work out there?

#freelance-talk - January 09, 2024 at 09:18 PM

I'm still pessimistic. I haven't seen any uptick in job postings or prospect interest. I haven't seen any indication of prospect interest at all, in fact. It may be niche dependent, though.

#CJE3XC0H3-announcements - January 09, 2024 at 05:26 PM

My goal/resolution/burning desire is to just get some decent paying and sustainable work, whether freelance or full-time, if it even exists. Because it hasn't been looking too good.

#freelance-talk - December 13, 2023 at 08:01 PM

I was doing some work in the digital twins niche, but wasn't finding a lot of companies, so I don't have anything else at the moment. I'm open to suggestions, though.

#freelance-talk - December 13, 2023 at 07:45 PM

I can't afford Crunchbase. I'm not familiar with other VC investment sites.

#freelance-talk - December 12, 2023 at 08:31 PM

I was using Climate Base, Climate Tech List and Terra.Do, but only Climate Tech List has funding round data

#freelance-talk - December 12, 2023 at 04:47 PM

Sure. That's be great! I was looking for companies in the 50 to 100 employee range, but the other day someone suggested companies with second stage funding are more likely to need content, so I'm looking for companies in the B round. Then I look for a content marketing manager or similar title and use Clearbit Connect to find emails.

#freelance-talk - December 11, 2023 at 03:53 PM

All he talks about is cold pitching, which I'm already doing a lot of.

#freelance-talk - December 08, 2023 at 06:55 PM

I read The Well-Fed Writer earlier this year. I wasn't too impressed, mainly because I'm a content writer, not a copywriter

#freelance-talk - December 06, 2023 at 04:00 PM

Does anyone else work in the climate tech/sustainability niches? Are you finding clients at all?

#freelance-talk - December 04, 2023 at 07:17 PM

I've used Skyword before, but never got work from them.

#freelance-talk - November 30, 2023 at 05:18 PM

Been more than a holiday dead zone. I haven't had regular work since May.

#freelance-talk - November 30, 2023 at 03:41 PM

Anyone have thoughts on the outlook for 2024? There don't seem to be any jobs available and no one's getting freelance work. Are things going to pick up or get worse?

#freelance-talk - November 21, 2023 at 09:26 PM

Pretty much. Like, I know I want to write some sustainability content, but I can't think of any specific topics

#freelance-talk - November 20, 2023 at 04:43 PM

@Theresa H I don't have any potential article topics at the moment

#freelance-talk - November 17, 2023 at 03:32 PM

What techniques do you use to generate ideas?

#job-listings - October 16, 2023 at 08:48 PM

Where does one apply?

#freelance-talk - October 10, 2023 at 03:26 PM

The total lack of client work this year, so I'm spending more time working on marketing myself and looking under rocks for prospects.

#freelance-talk - October 10, 2023 at 03:25 PM

A lot. I can't work if there's too much noise, for instance.

#general - September 28, 2023 at 06:48 PM

That'd be great, Amanda. That's very generous. Thank you.

#general - September 22, 2023 at 06:24 PM

@Rachel Awesome! Thank you!

#general - September 22, 2023 at 06:24 PM

@Theresa H Whjen I graduated from college in 2011 I became a freelance journalist because there was no other way for me to get work. When it became clear that was a dead end in 2019, I switch to freelance content marketing writing.
