I’ve done probably… 200+ of these as the Seo director at a design agency.

Biggest thing is only change one thing at a time.

The biggest mistake people make, as they see it is an opportunity to change everything: the messaging, the URL structure, in 1 million other things. The problem that is that you don’t know what broke things when traffic goes down.

My advice: only change the root URL and 301 redirect everything else 1 to 1.

I wouldn’t hire an agency just to create briefs. You can create them pretty automatically with copy.AI. The biggest thing about brief creation is going to be the editorial and the angle piece versus just cramming a bunch of keywords in there.

Feels like literally only the SEO people are thinking that AI in search results is going to be a big thing.

If it’s wrong too much, Google loses users.

HUGE risk for them to insert it too early and costing them ad clicks.

Also, super expensive to run.

Half of that thinking is people incentivized to not own how it does something for the business.

Other half of that thinking is, like you said, true.

The thing that’s missing is purpose.

If it has no purpose…

more of it does nothing.

And that’s a lot of what we see out there.

Podcast that sucks turned into a million clips, and a blog and emails and all this other stuff.

Then none of it does… anything.

IMO certifications aren’t as valuable as they once were. Good for very junior folks to get credibility ahead of experience, but with seo nobody can hold you back. Build your own blog(s). I’d take a few up and to the right graphs over a cert any day.

I think if you’re working on SEO, start looking at where your work overlaps and adds value for your ideal clients (or customers). That’s the key to freelancing and going from freelancer to the most in-demand consultant.

I think the biggest thing is understanding what types of videos would actually drive somebody to download something. If you are a saas company, there’s a bunch of creative plays that you can run but also make sure that we don’t treat TikTok as a direct response channel.

The offer you’re making them would appeal to a Blogger, but not a TikTok creator. Offering to help them connect and collaborate with the other creators you’re working with might be a more appealing offer?

I’ve done tons of work for private equity and VC firms on behalf of them and have no direct contact with anybody they’re working with outside of my work.
