Hola!

Oh my goodness. I concur. Few academics also have a marketing brain. It’s an entirely different way of thinking!

Hi there! I'm writing a piece on how writers can recommend split testing.
• When it makes sense
• How to suggest it to clients
• How to devise a test
• How do you price it?
• How would you do this without analytics?
Thanks!
#freelance-gigs - November 12, 2024 at 06:02 PM
To add to the above, do you have an existing site where you're publishing these articles or are you also looking for someone to pitch on your behalf to relevant outlets?
If so, that's more in the PR specialist world. I've done it for clients within my niche. I research the relevant outlets, gathered the info on audience/reach/cost and make my recommendations.
Then, the client takes care of the payment/contract with the B2B publication for the sponsored content. Which I then write.
Does this help?

Shout out to @Tommy Walker and his Content Theory course. It's a grad-level seminar on audience, big ideas, storytelling, and tying it all together.
#freelance-talk - November 11, 2024 at 05:27 PM
I don't have any answers atm (though I'm about to try a similar method of cold emailing) but I chuckled at the cat.house email. 😆

Depends on the complexity and length. I'd go higher than whatever you're currently charging to work with them, but I'd be careful about performance-based compensation unless you're controlling the entire funnel. There's a lot outside of your control otherwise.
#freelance-talk - August 20, 2024 at 06:07 PM
Same! Would love to exchange notes and ideas. I'm traveling next week but if folks want to set something up in early September, let's do it!
#freelance-talk - August 20, 2024 at 06:05 PM
This is awesome Divya! Thanks for sharing! Focusing on what we can control and following through is key!
Personally, I've been in a bit of a slump the past few weeks. Paused projects, summer slowdown, who knows. But I've used the time to take Tommy Walker's awesome content strategy course and think deeply about what my "better" clients look like and set new goals.

Hi Content Marketing Friends,
I'm writing on brand innovation for
Zappi and am looking for brands with innovative customer experience. Any suggestions? Thanks!
#general - July 31, 2024 at 01:38 PM
I did and within a year replaced THAT with another Lenovo. The Chromebook was painfully slow - at least the one I have. Now I consider it an emergency back up.
#content-collab - June 12, 2024 at 08:50 PM
Same. It’s a tough shift for sure.
#content-collab - June 12, 2024 at 08:18 PM
Thanks, Brinda! Do you like working in ButterDocs? Most of the writers I know who've tried it found it too clunky.
#content-collab - June 12, 2024 at 04:03 PM
Thanks!

Hi everyone! I'm writing an article on customer profiles for Zappi.
Do you have any great examples of ways a company has segmented customers based on pain points?
#freelance-talk - June 06, 2024 at 08:02 PM
Good stuff, thanks Erik. I'm very much workshopping this.
#freelance-talk - June 06, 2024 at 05:02 PM
Hey @Erik Dietrich, thanks! Refining these too, yet, broadly, I'm thinking small (1-3 people) content teams as the ICP. The buyer would be Head of Marketing or similar - whoever controls the budget.
#freelance-talk - June 04, 2024 at 10:58 PM
Hi Content Friends,
I'm mulling over a strategic content service and would love your input. This is v. rough.
Idea 1) Work with client on a campaign to drive MQL with a specific piece of content. The content can already be created (or not), but it needs to be a big rock thought leadership piece - original research report, excellent pillar post, excellent webinar - something. /p
My role would be to work with the client to improve distribution and therefore MQL.
How would it look in practice?
• Initial kick off call to establish goals, piece, and desired audience. We’ll discuss any promotion budget and potential channels - what’s worked before? What haven’t they tried, etc.
•
• We will implement (me or someone I bring on for specific skills)
• Review the results and report back with recommendations.
Idea 2) Use the company’s unique POV combined with SEO search intent to create three to five primary content pillars for the rest of the year. We can draw from existing resources, consider search intent (and tie it to profitable themes), and talk with SMEs and customers for insights.
With those primary topics (with a specific POV) in place, it’s a matter of riffing on and borrowing from those for the next six months. Track results and adapt as needed.
What do you think? Useful? Confusing? I should start over?
Thanks!
#general - May 22, 2024 at 09:56 PM
That would be awesome, Marissa. What’s the best way to get in touch?
#general - May 21, 2024 at 10:34 PM
Friends, I’m tasked with building out some processes for sharing confidential information. Like budget allocation type of info. I recognize this doesn’t fall under the content marketing header but if anyone has experience with this, I’d love to hear from you!

Hey 👋 Can anyone point me to the podcast transcripts? I’ve used the search bar but coming up empty. Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words, Ahsan!
#content-collab - February 20, 2024 at 04:33 PM
Thanks all for your help with my article on how writers can use Figma to streamline their workflow (and get better results for clients!)
#CJE3XC0H3-announcements - January 25, 2024 at 07:20 PM
Great to finally meet you, @Eric Doty (Superpath)! 🎉
#content-collab - January 22, 2024 at 06:08 PM
Thanks, @Brinda Gulati! That's helpful.
#content-collab - January 19, 2024 at 07:44 PM
@Kate Kight, That's a great question, thanks for asking. I'll see what I can find out!
Thanks, @Brinda Gulati, so you wrote the articles within Figma? That's an interesting use case. Did you highlight any of the text? H1, H2, etc. or use call out boxes or was it more of a way to deliver the content the design/engineer team in their preferred tool - like a writer might use Google doc vs. Word?
Thanks!
#content-collab - January 16, 2024 at 07:42 PM
Hi, content marketing friends! I'm working on an article about how Figma can improve the workflow between writers and designers. Do you have any tips? 😊 TIA
#freelance-gigs - December 11, 2023 at 08:59 PM
Thanks Rohma! Hospitality tech is one of my specialties!
#freelance-talk - December 08, 2023 at 07:05 PM
Finding clients is finding clients. The approaches are the same.
#freelance-talk - December 06, 2023 at 07:53 PM
My experience has been...crickets. Around 3 years ago, I filled out profiles on all three of these - nDash, Skyword, and Contently.
And that's all that's happened. This popped up in another group I'm in recently, and the responses left me feeling like they're crapshoots as to whether you'll find work there.

Love The Well-Fed Writer!
The key is to market, market, market. If you think it's dead, that's a self-fulfilling prophecy. Good luck!

Hi folks, I'm writing an article about the workflow for B2B content teams and the tech behind them. Can you share your tech stack? For topics and angles, assigning pieces, edits/revisions, approvals, publication, distribution, measurement? Love to hear from you. TIA!

@Eric Doty (Superpath) , it’s Digital Copywriter. I’m a tech columnist over there. Love ❤️ to hear your approach and tech stack!
#general - November 07, 2023 at 09:13 PM
You could offer the package for a limited time or limited number and go hard on promoting it in different channels.
#general - November 07, 2023 at 08:12 PM
Good stuff coming up here. Agreed, @Patrick, as long as they have an understanding of SEO. To Erik's point, you could end up with customers who need more guidance (or the whole thing ends up forgotten about. Are you thinking of rolling out a beta option?
#general - November 03, 2023 at 07:29 PM
I'd think most would find that valuable. It also adds a little accountability piece. Good luck!
#general - November 03, 2023 at 07:22 PM
So you'd offer it as a one-off project delivered over the course of a few weeks? Have you thought about including a periodic check in- maybe quarterly? Could be an upsell. To your original point, these people are swamped and could use expert guidance to help them move the needle.
#general - November 03, 2023 at 07:17 PM
Yep. I mean, I don't know how you're positioning it in those initial convos but most of us can lean on spelling out the potential $$$ more. Have you offered this package before?
#general - November 03, 2023 at 07:05 PM
Hey @Patrick, First, I'm a freelance writer and strategist, so I'm not your target client, but I have a couple of questions that are relevant to the strategy and business goals. And, I've worked with such founders.
How do you talk about SEO in terms of the bottom line when you talk with these founders? No one wants "SEO," they want the brand awareness and new customers that SEO can bring. So are you targeting other SEOs or people who are aware of SEO but need immediate revenue?
If the latter, how can you demonstrate business results within the "container" of SEO?
Maybe you've got that covered but to your point, your checklist sounds like "stuff" rather than the value of the "stuff." It's hard when you're so close to it. Believe me, I know.
#freelance-talk - November 02, 2023 at 09:20 PM
You're welcome!
#freelance-talk - November 01, 2023 at 09:05 PM
Hey @Eric Doty (Superpath), I've usually used Paypal. Though I think Calendly lets you accept payments now (via Paypal or Stripe.)
#freelance-gigs - August 02, 2023 at 05:35 PM
That’s up to you. I was more thinking revenue or employee size.
#freelance-gigs - August 02, 2023 at 04:40 PM
Cold emails do work for lead gen though I’ve found it helps to focus on a particular industry where I have experience.
To offer your combined package, you’re probably going to want to look at smaller companies. I could see their interest in an all-in-one.
#freelance-gigs - August 02, 2023 at 03:59 PM
1 q. I have is who are your ideal clients? It sounds like you write for well-known SaaS companies while your friend builds sites/graphics for small businesses.
Are your price points aligned?
You and your web design friend?
How small are these businesses?
Is there a particular industry or is it “everybody?”
Who’s doing the writing now for these smb?
Do you want to position it an all in one site hitting all the best SEO practices?
I’m sure there’s a market here but it sounds like you need to refine your positioning and product market fit.
Good luck!
