#freelance-gigs - November 10, 2024 at 03:19 PM

I publish adult SF/F books, and might well be interested.

#promo - August 06, 2024 at 01:11 PM

I have a story in this SF anthology that comes out today (Aware the images are broken, not under my control, links still work): https://books2read.com/neurodiversiverse-alien-encounters

Email sent. HR is my jam!

Low pay, AI detector requirement, snarky language in the ad. I snark back when people snark at me.

#general - May 15, 2024 at 05:33 PM

Yes, that one, multiple people were mocking it all over LinkedIn.

#general - May 15, 2024 at 02:16 PM

ON a lighter note, "Pet creator" may not be how you want to phrase your call 😉

#general - May 15, 2024 at 02:12 PM

Did you see the one that wanted five years of real estate investing experience for something like $50 a post?

#general - May 15, 2024 at 02:03 PM

Would people STOP trying to hire subject matter experts to write for peanuts? Just saw one where they want a licensed psychiatrist with experience as a psychiatrist and at least 2 years content marketing experience. Budget is $141 dollars for 1000-1500 words.

#pets - April 16, 2024 at 12:29 AM

That long suffering dog 😉 She is adorable..

#general - April 08, 2024 at 05:29 PM

I just hope nobody's dumb enough to work for that. (For those who aren't familiar with the exchange rate, that's about half a cent a word).

#general - April 08, 2024 at 01:54 PM

Long list of qualifications. Offered rate: 40 paise a word. "Please don't use AI"

#general - April 04, 2024 at 02:52 PM

Thank you!

#general - April 04, 2024 at 02:52 PM

nodnods Which is still lower than market rate in the U.S. but isn't what I would call terrible. Depending on what the work was and how long it would take me, I might consider that.

#general - April 04, 2024 at 02:06 PM

Thanks for providing the information. Out of curiosity, what IS considered a good rate in India right now?

#general - April 04, 2024 at 01:59 PM

ChatGPT's Ideal Client <tm>

#general - April 04, 2024 at 01:44 PM

They can't actually afford a writer.

#general - April 04, 2024 at 01:43 PM

600-800 INR is actually a bit more than $6-8 bucks, but I can't be bothered to do the actual math. It's still insulting.

#general - April 04, 2024 at 01:42 PM

That's..possible.

#general - April 04, 2024 at 01:41 PM

I mean, has this strategy ever worked for them?

#general - April 04, 2024 at 01:41 PM

I just don't get why somebody thinks they can counter offer 1/10th or 1/20th of a quote on anything.

#general - April 04, 2024 at 01:31 PM

That's what I charge for easy proofreading.

#general - April 04, 2024 at 01:31 PM

I will talk to Indian clients, but I'm up front about the fact that I have to charge U.S. rates. Sometimes they can afford me, most of the time they can't, and I don't mind "You're too expensive," it was the fact that they would even think for a second that I would work for that.

#general - April 04, 2024 at 12:47 PM

"My rates are between $200 and $250 for a 1,000 word article." Prospective client "Currently, we're looking for content within the range of 600 to 800 INR for 1000 words. If you're still interested in working with us within this budget, please let me know." That's $6-8 for 1000 words. That's not even a good rate for a student in India and why the heck would anyone think I would take less than 1/20th of my rates for the type of work? (This is not the first time this has happened, and I store the names in a "I will never work for this person even if they get rich" file).

#freelance-gigs - March 07, 2024 at 02:41 PM

Done!

#freelance-gigs - March 07, 2024 at 02:40 PM

Can I please share this with somebody I know who's experience is a really good match?

#general - March 05, 2024 at 12:28 AM

It happens. Unfortunately, there are a LOT of people trying to misclassify.

#general - March 04, 2024 at 07:18 PM

Clients. Plural 😉

#general - March 04, 2024 at 07:15 PM

I can't prove it. It just set off my spidey sense. Shame...it was the best lead I had this week and I'm trying to find some better paying client.

#general - March 04, 2024 at 07:13 PM

(Honestly, these people wouldn't have stopped at 40 hours, I don't think)

#general - March 04, 2024 at 07:12 PM

I did. Refusing to reveal scope of work/needed capacity isn't a red flag I've seen discussed much.

#general - March 04, 2024 at 04:18 PM

They were also making WGAC-violating websites for their clients, so...but that's 90% of websites right now because of the Current Fashion You Must Follow <tm>

#general - March 04, 2024 at 04:14 PM

That's the level of stupid out there.

#general - March 04, 2024 at 04:14 PM

I had one drop me for AI, come back, then decide that AI would work if they trained their own AI.

#general - March 04, 2024 at 04:08 PM

(You've seen those people around, I'm sure. If you want a human, pay for a human :P)

#general - March 04, 2024 at 04:04 PM

But I can do better than 1.5 cents/word NO AI NO AI NO AI 😛

#general - March 04, 2024 at 04:04 PM

Fast food literally nearly killed me the one time I was forced to it.

#general - March 04, 2024 at 04:03 PM

I can't even wait tables.

#general - March 04, 2024 at 04:03 PM

My skills: Writing. Editing.

#general - March 04, 2024 at 04:02 PM

I don't have anything to pivot to.

#general - March 04, 2024 at 04:00 PM

If I could find anyone willing to pay it. Some days it seems what I'm worth is 1.5 cents a word (Yes, I seriously have people counter offer that in 2024 and that's not even enough for somebody in India!)

#general - March 04, 2024 at 03:40 PM

I'm advantaged by having a source of health coverage, disadvantaged by soaring rent (I cry when I see the words "lease renewal" before even opening it...it legit gives me anxiety). If I lived in somewhere like Detroit, $25/hr would be much more reasonable.
