Given that you're interviewing people in addition to writing/editing the articles, an hourly rate would make sense. Especially since the actual time you spend interviewing people will vary based on the interviewee's availability and preference (whether email or video chat)
As for the actual rate, you'll have to determine that based on how much the client is already paying you. Are they paying per project or something else?

agree with @Phillip Keane. Some of the worst clients I've had are from the US and Canada. One particular proud rich techbro (he was a trust fund kid and proudly mentioned in on calls as how he funded the business) wanted me to be on-call full-time while paying me really low per-project rates. I ended that relationship after a month

There are always people who are announcing "X is dead" who either don't know better or are doing it for the views (and they're always wrong)
Never heard of them shutting down their communities though. I think that part is more about them not being able to manage the transition than about SEO as a whole

I saw a post asking people to transcribe CAPTCHA images into an excel file, presumably for hacking purposes. I dont remember actual price but it was definitely NOT worth it
#freelance-gigs - December 03, 2024 at 10:01 PM
@Mile Zivkovic yes, they are incredibly legendary 😄
#freelance-gigs - December 03, 2024 at 10:01 PM
@Eric Doty (Superpath) yep! at the 0.30 to 0.50 range if you want specifics
#freelance-talk - November 29, 2024 at 12:56 AM
I usually put rush fee as a percentage of the total project amount (if you know that already)
#freelance-talk - September 27, 2024 at 10:14 PM
Definitely disclose. If you don't disclose it the winner will feel "ambushed" and not have a good experience

I used to be an assistant instructor in Brainstation teaching digital marketing classes. pretty good gig for only 3 hours of class a week. but the semesters are pretty short (10 weeks)
#freelance-talk - September 18, 2024 at 03:17 AM
I went as a freelancer a few years ago with the intent of signing new clients there or at least expanding my network.
Unfortunately, I was (am) pretty socially awkward so I just wound up weirding most people out and wasting a few thou on something i could've watched online.
#general - September 03, 2024 at 10:32 PM
generally, not for the first time. Repeat offenders may get a notice though
#freelance-talk - July 26, 2024 at 08:41 PM
👀
#freelance-talk - July 23, 2024 at 12:17 AM
I've heard of it happening to other people, but not me.
#freelance-talk - July 19, 2024 at 02:20 AM
Honestly my boilerplate is just "hey, do you mind writing me a LinkedIn testimonial?"
#general - July 17, 2024 at 07:48 PM
Been seeing a lot of roles on LI for "Copywriter - AI Tutor." Out of curiosity, has anyone actually signed up for these roles? What's involved and what are the implications for the rest of the human writers?
#freelance-talk - July 17, 2024 at 06:40 PM
It's been pretty eventful! Seasons come and go, empires rise and fall, but writers are always needed 😉
#freelance-talk - July 17, 2024 at 03:37 PM
Good for you. I've had that happen to me, too. The "word creep" is sly and subtle
#general - July 15, 2024 at 09:06 PM
by and large most people didn't care, but i pissed off someone who refused to let it go and hounded all of my posts
#general - July 15, 2024 at 09:05 PM
earlier in my career i was asked to do that on LI on a regular basis, and it earned me negative reactions that forced me to delete my account and make a new one
#general - July 11, 2024 at 11:41 PM
IMHO it's generally the same principles as regular content marketing, except the topics are more focused towards things relevant to audience of a specific product. For example, if a shoe brand is selling badminton sneakers, then that would require content around that specific sport
#freelance-talk - July 10, 2024 at 06:49 PM
hi all! Currently negotiating a project for writing social media (LI) posts for a potential client. I've done work like this plenty of times, but only as a full-time employee. How would you normally price this as a freelancer? Volume? PPW? Hours?
#freelance-talk - July 03, 2024 at 03:04 PM
I have my freelance biz on my career profile but I don't actively talk about my freelance projects. My boss doesn't mind but she has pointed out (and rightly so) that she'd get in trouble if the CEO saw that someone on her team was doing freelance work
#general - June 28, 2024 at 02:57 PM
Thats part of why I quit Fiverr so long ago. So much effort for so little gain.
#intros - June 27, 2024 at 04:05 AM
Welcome to the group! I balance freelance and in-house roles, too. Would love to swap tips. Can we connect on LI?
#general - June 25, 2024 at 06:23 PM
those two sites look super interesting, thanks!
#general - June 25, 2024 at 05:22 PM
hey all! We're seeing lower numbers lately for our B2B email campaigns and my boss wants me to explore potential changes to our layout/copy/subject lines. does anyone have any examples of high-performing b2b emails that they can share?
#freelance-talk - March 15, 2024 at 05:29 PM
@marissa yeah, it seems like this guy has a big ego. probably related to his status in the industry and how many times he's been published.
#freelance-talk - March 15, 2024 at 04:48 PM
I just had to edit an article from a writer that came highly recommended. Industry veteran published in trade mags. They submitted a 900 word article, but only 200 of it was meaty. The rest of it was either fluff (including a 400 word intro) and talking down to the audience.
When i asked them why they didn't follow the brief I gave them, they responded "i never read those. I've been writing for X years, I know what's good." Went straight to my manager with my concerns, and she agreed that we shouldn't use this guy anymore.
Not looking for advice. Just venting

Unfortunately ai detectors are buggy and give wrong results all the time. Maybe you can show the Google docs draft and show the different time stamped versions?
#freelance-talk - December 07, 2023 at 10:30 PM
I had a client in the solar space a while back, but unfortunately they got acquired and their new CMO shifted away from content
Haven't had a client in that space again since
#general - November 26, 2023 at 03:24 PM
I've found that my "niche" shifts as my clients shift. I used to be mostly SaaS but now I'm mostly manufacturing
#promo - November 07, 2023 at 04:36 PM
Done!
#freelance-talk - November 01, 2023 at 08:05 PM
My own company already experienced that. They tried implementing ChatGPT across the board for writing/creating efforts but achieved limited success, and now the only thing i hear it being used for is writing personal emails and helping with presentations
#freelance-talk - October 15, 2023 at 02:13 PM
I would also add that the purpose of ghost writing is to hide/ disguise the actual author. So if you the writer exposes the arrangement without the clients permission, that would defeat the purpose of the relationship and maybe get you in trouble
#general - September 07, 2023 at 05:17 PM
ok good to know, thanks!
#general - September 07, 2023 at 04:28 PM
hi guys, has anyone worked with a company called WebFX before? My boss is meeting them now. They're making a lot of promises and I want to check if they're legit
#intros - July 27, 2023 at 02:57 PM
love the name of your newsletter!

Elon is now blackmailing advertisers into spending on his platform
#general - July 24, 2023 at 02:33 PM
Don't worry, it's nothing you did (or didn't) do 😄
#general - July 16, 2023 at 01:57 PM
I would like to add to those tips:
• Never ask yes or no questions. Or if you do, always include a follow up
• Sometimes the SME is too busy to actually conduct the interview with you (if it's a ceo or similar position). In that case you can try getting them to send you bullet points of their thoughts on slack or email and you work it into the article in their voice. Then send it to them for approval
• At the end of the interview ask "do you have any thoughts or opinions on the topic that i didn't ask about or should've asked about?" That is a great source of quotable quotes if they do
#freelance-gigs - May 11, 2023 at 03:45 PM
Yeah i usually provide the contract. Occasionally a client will have their own, which i read over and sign if the terms are acceptable
#general - April 29, 2023 at 03:25 PM
I always make it a point to ask my clients for referrals in case they know anyone. I do this once a quarter for each client or so (depending on their mood) and many of them usually come through with leads. Former clients too if they still talk to me
#freelance-gigs - April 06, 2023 at 04:31 PM
there is a "use it or lose it" policy so if they employ me for 40 hours a month and only use 38 then i don't owe them 2 additional hours next month
#freelance-gigs - April 06, 2023 at 04:30 PM
i usually charge a flat rate for everything (1 hour of a meeting costs the same as 1 hour of writing) to keep it simple
#freelance-gigs - April 06, 2023 at 04:29 PM
i've priced out monthly retainers and they're usually based on how much work you expect to do for the company at that time
#content-collab - March 28, 2023 at 03:39 PM
Count me in
#intros - March 22, 2023 at 09:31 PM
OMG decaf? How do you stand it?
