welcome back to the island! 😉
#freelance-gigs - July 27, 2023 at 10:22 PM
My team does this! We'd be happy to learn more!
#freelance-gigs - May 10, 2023 at 07:29 PM
Yes, I do this! A lot of companies have a single content marketing manager and the CMO does not know a lot about content marketing or brand (more on the performance side).
A big part of this relationship is often coming in in a mentorship capacity to any in-house content marketers so they can uplevel from jumping tactic to tactic.
Love this kind of work!

I'm crap at the self-promotional stuff; I never post on LI or write big thought leadership-y posts, etc. I find the relationships I build are quiet 1:1 relationships and I have a small-but-mighty word of mouth network.
All the leaders I've worked with are the same: Behind the scenes getting shit done, not talking about it. It was a liberating moment when I realized this was an option. Now, I only post when I feel like I have something meaningful to contribute (not just for the sake of it.)
IMO, sometimes the people who spend a lot of time posting on LI and other channels are better at marketing themselves than they are at doing the work (not always true, but often). Lots of people prefer to work with the quiet doers. Don't feel you have to change 🙂

Personally, I would not change pricing. I think about it this way: I don't bill for my time, I bill for the value I drive, and that includes judgement about how and when to leverage tools like AI and making sure content is overall well-written, accurate, on-brand, unique, driving conversion.

f/up: I read this as $168 per article not per set. If it's per set, I wouldn't even entertain my previous logic...
#freelance-gigs - March 13, 2023 at 10:20 PM
Hey there - This is a kinda low rate in general... but 600 words is also a short article. I would never offer an opinion on whether somebody should/shouldn’t take a project since we’re all in unique positions, but some things I would think about:
• Is the subject matter easy/familiar?
• Do you have workflow shortcuts that can speed up production?
• Are the sets comprised of “overlapping” topics that would help you go faster?
• How quickly do you write in general? (How long do you estimate an article will take you)
• Do you have a sense of how hands-off/hands-on they’ll be?
If you can bang these articles out at a decent clip, you might be able to make the money work. It’s certainly nice to have recurring business on your roster (I sometimes offer a discounted rate to long-term recurring clients, especially when I love the brand/topic). And you can certainly see how it goes on a trial run of one set and then decide it’s not worth it later…

One business/job with multiple clients.

I know a lot of Canadians in this space if you decide to cast a wider net!

First informational call is always free. It’s about establishing fit on both sides so I don’t see it as giving away time. Agree with @Sam Grover!!
However, I do try to learn enough beforehand over email to establish they’re not just tire-kickers.

I work at FreshBooks, which does all this plus expense tracking, accounting and more. Happy to answer any questions you might have!

It depends on the brand standard! I prefer sentence case in general because (a) it's easier for non-writers to adhere to, (b) I believe it reads as more approachable / human / friendlier, and (c) in some contexts (e.g. paid ads) title case can look clunky. But inconsistency is a worse mistake than choosing either sentence or title imo.

What?! such a treat! Thanks @Jimmy Daly (Superpath)!
#freelance-gigs - June 30, 2021 at 03:53 PM
I'd get a scope of work first and then provide an estimate/proposal.
#writing-feedback - June 21, 2021 at 09:52 PM
No SEO impact, just a brand/style guide thing as far as I know.
#intros - May 26, 2021 at 06:12 PM
congrats on the new role!
#intros - May 26, 2021 at 06:11 PM
Hey Bronwyn 🙂
#freelance-gigs - May 18, 2021 at 04:57 PM
All of the above. Really depends on the client/need.
