"Understand the why before starting so you can measure success accurately. Downloads are usually only a fraction of the story/success metrics."
Try to make it a win even if no one listens. Podcasts are slow (and hard) to grow. Ours has a good download number now, but even if no one listened we'd get to a) talk to smart people and learn stuff about how content is done within target clients' companies b) repurpose content for social / blog and c) build relationships in our industry. We also get to showcase clients and their stories. It's got so many utilities beyond the downloads.
