Yeah I'm looking for 1,000+

#content-collab - July 06, 2023 at 11:08 AM

How many employees do you have?

#local-uk - July 06, 2023 at 06:37 AM

I use Wise for payments to Canada and some of my US clients use it to pay me. You/they can get their first one free using my link 🙂 https://wise.com/invite/u/dominick217

#content-collab - July 05, 2023 at 07:59 AM

I'm looking for full-time enterprise staff who have sight of the overall experience, thanks.

#content-collab - July 05, 2023 at 06:45 AM

Have you ever worked for an enterprise?

#content-collab - July 04, 2023 at 03:08 PM

Hey @Harshala Chavan were you referring to this post, maybe? https://superpathcommunity.slack.com/archives/CKRJX5U5A/p1688463988963589

Please can you remove this as per the message below? 🙂

#content-collab - July 04, 2023 at 09:46 AM

Do you work in an enterprise? Do you love Slack?

If so, I'd love to feature your "Why I love Slack so much" in the Enterprise Collaboration Report I'm writing.

The section "Why Slack users love Slack" will be included in the strengths and weakness portion of the report.

My hybrid AI alter ego, Giles, now has a portfolio of their own: https://dispatch.m.io/author/giles-peter-thompson/

#freelance-gigs - June 22, 2023 at 10:17 AM

Every client of mine pays via direct bank transfer, per my terms and conditions in my contract.

What country are you in?

#freelance-gigs - June 14, 2023 at 07:48 AM

Sounds like imposter syndrome - I suffered from it massively, especially when I was a junior pre-sales person sat in a room with grey-haired, loud people. When I started treating my freelance life as a business, I soon overcame it 🙂

#freelance-gigs - June 14, 2023 at 06:51 AM

Depends on how much knowledge of the product, audience, industry you need. But I wouldn't start at less than $1,000 if the client is expecting their website to start making them money.

#freelance-gigs - June 14, 2023 at 06:49 AM

I've given a few rude replies to cold pitches. I've changed that to providing feedback on how the person's pitch could be improved and for them to target people who are actually looking for freelance writers.

Personally, I've never really understood why people spend so much time on cold outreach if it doesn't work.

Why not focus on warm outreach:
• former customers
• existing customers
• people in your network
• people actively recruiting
or spend time building your personal brand?

I've never done any cold outreach and have always (touch wood) had more than enough to do be getting on with.

#freelance-gigs - June 13, 2023 at 11:17 AM

Thanks Elise. I'm pretty darn technical and doing a lot with Dynamics and the whole contact center side of Microsoft at the moment.

Happy to help out with lower funnel assets if you need someone with 10 years hands-on experience.

#freelance-gigs - June 12, 2023 at 07:06 AM

no

#freelance-gigs - June 12, 2023 at 07:06 AM

Hey Greg, like Lindsey said, it's a loaded question.

So much so, that I wrote a book dedicated to it. No pressure, and I don't want this to be a sales pitch, but your question is the reason I wrote my book.

Any Kindle experts in the house?

Text to speech doesn't work when people download my book. I'm using a KPF file as recommended by Amazon, but my book is the only one is my friend's library that text to speech doesn't work on.

#freelance-gigs - June 08, 2023 at 06:21 AM

Have you got a portfolio of work? (Doesn't have to be freelance.)

Go share it where you potential customers are.

Don't have your potential customers in your network? Add them!

As a freelance writer, no I haven't lost any clients to due any switch to AI.

As a content marketing lead, I am using AI to write the super bog standard posts, that require 0 creativity (see: https://dispatch.m.io/author/giles-peter-thompson/) - these are not the quality I would expect from a freelance writer with experience in the niche and this is very much an experimentation phase still.

#freelance-gigs - May 31, 2023 at 11:17 AM

G2 is also very thorough: https://learn.g2.com/guest-post-guidelines

To the point where it's offputting. But that's kind of the point. They only want the best contributions.

#freelance-gigs - May 31, 2023 at 11:16 AM

Here are the guest guidelines for Mio: https://medium.com/the-message-io-dispatch/guest-post-guidelines-for-dispatch-57688123df62

You'll see I'm very specific in what I ask for.

#freelance-gigs - May 31, 2023 at 11:15 AM

Oh, so you're cold pitching? Definitely analyse what the guest guidelines are really asking for, and spend a good amount of time on their website to see what would fit and what has already been covered.

Also, +1 for Ankit. He's landed some nice guest posts!

#freelance-gigs - May 31, 2023 at 11:02 AM

I mean literally ask them, "Are there any articles in your calendar that I could write as a guest post?"

And send your samples so they know your niche.

#freelance-gigs - May 31, 2023 at 10:59 AM

I always flip it and see what the editor wants published.

As both a pitcher and editor, I'd much rather someone wrote something on my backlog, than have to work through a new idea, do research for something that wasn't on my original plan, then maybe or maybe not post it when I realise it's not right for my publication.

Outside of that, read website's guidelines thoroughly and only pitch if you have a very decent idea that fits for that site.

#freelance-gigs - May 31, 2023 at 10:27 AM

I have two freelancers from Nigeria on my roster at Mio.

Quality is what I look for, above all else.

Then when we do a paid test, ability to execute a specific requirement (usually "write a blog post from this content brief + writer guidelines") in a mutually agreed timeframe.

Both my freelancers from Africa did this very well in the test phase and continue to do so today.

I use this template and have never had a client pay late: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wHkc_LN9z5iADQpRxf2sn3qqX1vevLwuJxC_7nUfJ_k/edit

Here's mine 🙂 https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wHkc_LN9z5iADQpRxf2sn3qqX1vevLwuJxC_7nUfJ_k/edit

#freelance-gigs - May 19, 2023 at 07:31 AM

I do this, mainly because of my previous full time role as a product marketer. I much prefer content and only advertise that. So I inflate my price when people really want me to help with other stuff.

I'd ask to interview other product marketers in your niche. Get hands on product experience, attend trade shows, turn up on webinars etc.

#freelance-gigs - May 18, 2023 at 11:17 AM

I've never sent a cold email in my life, but if you've sent 400+ and not got any responses, I suggest there's something majorly wrong here.

It could be:
1. the quality of your emails
2. the targets of your emails
I would suggest only targeting people who are actively hiring. Emailing people who don't have an open (freelance) role doesn't make much sense to me, as you have to sell the concept as well as how good you are at it.

The quality speaks for itself. People buy what's in front of them. If you're content in your email is less than great, the recipient is unlikely to be convinced you're the right person for the job.

I also advocate what Rashi says about stopping cold emaling altogether. Building a portfolio and showcasing how great you are in public is the best growth strategy for freelancers.

I write about this at length in my book (theautonomousfreelancer.com)

#local-uk - May 17, 2023 at 06:47 AM

It was really quiet time tbh. My pipeline has always been full for my entire 5 years as a freelancer. But I setup my days to finish as early as possible. So when I didn't have anyone to play golf with or finished super early, I worked on these 🙂

#local-uk - May 16, 2023 at 07:54 AM

I started to create products to build a passive income. So far, I've made:
Blogging course
Content promotion checklist
• My book: The Autonomous Freelancer
They all tick by at a nice cadence and add onto my consulting/writing work 🙂

#freelance-gigs - May 15, 2023 at 06:43 AM

75% leadership. 25% content.

And the pay is totally mixed in these scenarios too.

With my best paying client (per deliverable), I am effectively a small, high-performing cog in a very big machine.

Likewise, with my lowest paying client, the business would likely not exist without my original input.

Content is wild 🙃

#freelance-gigs - May 11, 2023 at 02:12 PM

How can people be so excited by AI when Slackbot thinks this is the right use of the word "course"? 😆

#freelance-gigs - May 11, 2023 at 01:50 PM

Fire away 🙂

#freelance-gigs - May 11, 2023 at 06:26 AM

Yep, I do this for 75% of my customers 🙂

#freelance-gigs - May 09, 2023 at 06:41 AM

  1. Will I enjoy myself?
  2. Will they pay me what I want to earn?
  3. Will they help me grow as a freelancer? I wrote a section about finding the right customers in my book. I do this 3-question exercise every time someone new approaches me.

#local-uk - May 09, 2023 at 06:40 AM

I'm just back from two weeks off plus the bank holiday. Finding an amount you're comfortable with having in reserve is crucial. I wrote a chapter in my book about arranging time, billing to enable free time, etc!

#local-uk - April 19, 2023 at 01:12 PM

First time at a fringe event and measure fest is great. Landing page optimisation and GA4 on the agenda.

#local-uk - April 19, 2023 at 08:39 AM

Is anyone else at Measure Fest today? I've got two conversion optimisation projects on the go at the moment so hoping to learn a thing or two.

#local-uk - April 18, 2023 at 01:47 PM

Hey UK folks, not sure how I didn't realise/forgot this channel existed. So, hey again!

#freelance-gigs - April 18, 2023 at 09:56 AM

I make as much as possible asynchronous.

My packages are displayed on my website, my portfolio is out in the wild, and people come to me because of my work in my niche.

it's a very rare occasion when I need to have a call to scope out a project. If it's a longer-term engagement, and we need to plan a scope of work, I do it for free, but make sure I factor into the overall costs of the project.

#freelance-gigs - April 17, 2023 at 12:57 PM

👋

#freelance-gigs - March 22, 2023 at 02:59 PM

Sounds like you need to question the quality of the gig/marketplace. It should be clear what the actual role is from the start. If not, ask!

#freelance-gigs - March 22, 2023 at 02:50 PM

If it's for ghostwriting, then it's expected anyway. I would want to see the live sample, then ask the writer to do a paid test.

#freelance-gigs - March 22, 2023 at 02:32 PM

If the question is live article vs google doc, I always want to see the live version.

#freelance-gigs - March 22, 2023 at 02:31 PM

The most important thing here is to read what you're being asked for.

I've had 1000s of people send me things I haven't asked for, and it puts me off taking their application any further.

treat things like this on a case by case basis, and you'll stand a better chance.

#freelance-gigs - March 20, 2023 at 05:04 PM

This demonstrates the difference between brands/products etc. With the client I referenced, I interviewed the product manager, product marketing manager, and sales specialist per product before I got to the research and writing part. Hence the difference in effort/costs.

#freelance-gigs - March 20, 2023 at 02:16 PM

I created 20 buyer messaging personas documents with messaging matrixes for £20k in 2021. I worked out that they would, on average, take 1 day per deliverable. Of course, some were quicker and some a little longer but I think it right overall.

This was for a billion dollar enterprise with high-ticket items.

#freelance-gigs - March 20, 2023 at 02:14 PM

Always 20% tacked on for the unknowns of doing something new!
