📢 Just wanted to announce that Workona (DR 62) is now accepting guest posts! We’re looking for articles that focus on customer success and client work (agencies, freelancers, service firms) as the audience. If you want some direction, we’re currently looking for articles on how to build these types of assets (each one a separate post):

• new client onboarding checklist
• statement of work document
• new client presentation
• etc.
What’s in it for you: 1 backlink in the author bio; 1 relevant backlink in the article body. Plus, we’ll share the finished articles via social media & email. If you’re interested, let me know via DM 👍

#content-collab - April 27, 2022 at 10:10 PM

Sure thing, glad it was useful to you!

#general - April 20, 2022 at 04:43 PM

Maybe “Transitions” would be a better sub-pillar, as it’s a bit broader. It could cover topics like quitting, setting up your new business, getting your first client, etc. And these topics could still be approached through the BIPOC lens.

Hey Melissa, I passed this onto my colleague and this is what he shared:

We use a handful of tools: Kolide, Tugboat, and Workona. Kolide has a handy little Slackbot that messages employees to help them fix security or compliance issues when detected. We use Tugboat for tracking account access; i.e., who requires access to which tools. This makes Tugboat a good source of truth for both onboarding and offboarding. And finally, we use Workona to set up new employees with all the files, docs, and links they need to get started. It’s all in one place, so they don’t have to search for anything.

Not sure if this is what you’re looking for, but another area to consider is home inspection (or perhaps other areas of the real estate process?) For example, Structure Tech has invested in content (blog and a podcast, probably other initiatives) over the years, and they rank highly for keywords like “home inspection blog”

#content-collab - February 25, 2022 at 01:18 AM

Hey Rebekah, I’m happy to help on the B2B content writer side!

#CJE3XC0H3-announcements - February 01, 2022 at 05:23 PM

I do like to browse #content-collab…maybe it could be turned into #collaboration-opportunities or something similar, so there’s still a formal channel for partnership?

#writing-feedback - December 17, 2021 at 06:03 PM

Hey Cat, at first glance your portfolio looks clean and polished—good job! However, I’d like to see a line or two at the top of your profile explaining what you are especially good at. I think it can be a bit aspirational too. e.g., “I specialize in B2B writing for hard-to-understand products. I turn technical details into clarity for your customers, which means more $$$ for your business.” That’s not a great example; I’m sure you can do better 😁

As someone who’s hired for content roles, I am quite picky about grammar & style in content writing samples. From that perspective, I see room for improvement. For example, the first line on this page and the second paragraph on this sample have some grammar errors. If you’re not already using Grammarly, it’s a great option to help you improve grammar while you write. For the portfolio, you might even consider copying your old pieces into a Google Doc (so the text styling & images are retained), and just rewriting the lines that need work. Just an idea. Hope this was helpful!

Hey Dom, I’m interested. Can I PM you?

#general - March 03, 2021 at 08:17 PM

This interview on B2B content strategy just dropped today (from Forget the Funnel). I haven’t finished it, but so far it’s solid: [great webinar showing a customer call in action](https://www.forgetthefunnel.com/resources/how-to-develop-and-advocate-for-a-b2b-saas-content-strategy>

The guest, Adrienne Barnes, talks about gleaning content insight from customer calls. I’ve been digging into the specifics of how to conduct those calls, and can recommend this template bundle from Customer Camp. It’s basically a field guide to doing customer calls via the Jobs to be Done method: https://customercamp.co/claritycalls/

EDIT: Here’s a <https://click.mlsend.com/link/c/YT0xNjMyMTAxNDM5NzcxNzc2MzUxJmM9djJsOCZlPTYxNTc5Mzg4JmI9NTM3MzYyNzQwJmQ9YTh6OXExZQ==.cf69WXWwWC13TEMShw-wON-XbuCDmg9Jqv4YQStNPyw). Check it out while it’s available! (expires 12PM ET on Monday, March 8th 2021)

Hey Ben, yes they will consider remote! I was told it will be up to the employee.

Hey y’all, I wanted to share two opportunities from my network: Content Marketing Specialist & Demand Gen Marketing Manager at Rivet. Rivet is a startup that wants to make healthcare costs more transparent. I personally know several members of the Rivet team, and they’re fantastic to work with—smart, focused, team-oriented. The company is already ventured-backed and growing fast! If you’re interested, feel free to DM me with questions.

#writing-feedback - October 08, 2020 at 04:25 PM

Hey Hannah, I like the video as well 🙂 I took a look on mobile and desktop. Quick design thought: the combination of headers, typeface, and design elements above the fold (on desktop) ends up feeling heavy. It’s hard for me to know what to read first. Might be worth lightening up that area.

Definitely agree with @Erik Dietrich about tightening up your offering. This is something I’m thinking about for my own website: If a visitor walked away with just one takeaway, what would it be? Maybe you can expand that to 3 takeaways, but the point is narrowing your scope and saying who your best-fit audience is. For example:

• I’ll help your new company build the marketing foundation it needs for the next 5 years
• I specialize in growing small businesses by generating more leads with your existing blog
• I handle the marketing content your small business has been putting off, so you can focus on strategy
This isn’t great copy, but you get the idea. And then think about how you can carry that main takeaway through to your newsletter description, testimonials, etc. I hope that helps!

#writing-feedback - October 01, 2020 at 11:00 PM

This looks super cool! +1 to the markdown/WP export. Something else to think about: It can be hard to track the evolution of a phrase/blurb/paragraph. This seems to matter most for brand messaging (e.g. mission statements, taglines, above-the-fold homepage copy), where every word (and iteration) will be scrutinized by leadership. These are discrete, important pieces of content in their own right, but current tools don’t treat them as such. It would be really cool to track and easily compare different versions over time.

Whoever gets the gig would be right down the street from Workona! Someday it’ll be safe enough for us to get lunch together 😊

Hi E, I'm not sure (sharing on behalf of a friend)

Aha! is looking for a Content Editor (remote in the US or Canada):

"Are your editorial standards relentlessly high? Are you passionate about technology and leadership topics? We are looking for a talented editor who wants to work closely with writers to create engaging content. This is not your typical B2B content — we tackle complex topics in a human-centric way. We want someone who can do a quick line edit, but more importantly, knows how to shape an article with structure and tone. If this is you, we want to hear from you!"

@Kendall Walters @Grace Thanks for the great additions, you two! I've added Vidyard and RingCentral to the list. If you don't mind liking our LinkedIn post and retweeting, I'd sure appreciate it 🙂

Thanks Grace! Do you know if there's any kind of time limit on the offer?

#CJE3XC0H3-announcements - March 19, 2020 at 02:09 AM

With so many tech companies offering their tools free for remote work, I wanted a comprehensive list. So I made one! I hope you find it helpful. And definitely let me know about any offers we missed: https://medium.com/@workona/the-ultimate-list-of-free-software-for-remote-work-during-coronavirus-af6b1e12526e

Ooh I'll share this with my network!

#CJE3XC0H3-announcements - February 15, 2020 at 01:31 AM

I think it's appropriate for TOFU pieces to bring in your solution as long as it's an excellent fit for the problem that brought readers to that piece. And that doesn't preclude the option of gated content that further woos/educates your prospect.

P.S. Georgiana Laudi talks about "forgetting the funnel" and instead basing your stages on how the customer achieves success (a la the Jobs to be Done framework). This piece talks more about it: https://medium.com/forgetthefunnel/stumbling-to-customer-led-growth-fe0634294ad7

#writing-feedback - June 20, 2019 at 07:16 PM

Hey Dom, looks good. One thing that seems to be missing is a compelling summary of the benefits at the beginning, or in the eventual pop-up, e.g. "These findings will help team managers, IT admins, and business owners understand which apps are popular, which ones are losing favor, and how to balance security with accessibility." Or something snappier than that ☺️

#CJE3XC0H3-announcements - May 14, 2019 at 02:05 PM

@Arpit Choudhury I actually haven't tried Qlearly because I fell in love with Workona as a beta tester. What made you decide that Qlearly was the right fit?
