Yes and sometimes even if you can legally hire freelancers from anywhere, sometimes your own procurement team doesn't want to deal with it and will say no. It's annoying.

We do one a year, data comes from our own data science team (we do analyses of large ERP systems as part of our business). Our head of data science writes an article or two, then we source other articles in house, editing and translation also happens in house. So while it's a huge project, it's not super expensive for us.

Survey costs vary widely depending on sample size, internationality (are you just doing US, will your questions need to be translated, etc), and the package you choose for the processing of the data - will the company provide interpretation, charts, landing page, write a report, etc. We work with one company that has quoted us something like 25-30k EUR for 3-4 questions to senior leaders in our industry across the EU (German company so prob heavily weighted to DACH), delivered with a landing page, short report and some charts if I remember correctly. I wasn't directly involved in that discussion as it happened before I started, so I don't have further details I'm afraid.
