#local-colorado - January 21, 2025 at 08:06 PM

Heyo! In Denver. Was way too cold this weekend.

Denver? Lots of us here!

Sell to large social agencies. ABM-style outbound and visiting them in person

#general - January 12, 2025 at 10:41 PM

Hey @Sid Varma ! Thanks for pointing this out. (I’m the founder of EditorNinja). It is meant to connote our two offerings (editing and writing) but I can see how it’s confusing! I’ll adjust the language to be more clear. Thanks again!

#general - December 27, 2024 at 04:06 PM

Make it a great year by scheduling a call with me for January!

#general - November 25, 2024 at 04:27 PM

@Chloe Thompson we love having you as a customer!

#general - August 09, 2024 at 05:31 PM

Lack experience in what way?

#general - April 05, 2024 at 10:03 PM

Nope, I primarily listen to entrepreneurship focused podcasts

#general - March 31, 2024 at 04:34 PM

Lots of experienced people around here. Can you just post your question here?

#general - March 11, 2024 at 04:08 PM

Why not specify that you work in specific niches, based on who is inquiring? Build up your portfolio and only show them the pieces relevant to that.

#general - March 11, 2024 at 04:07 PM

For the same reason that more agencies don’t run their own sites - it’s a completely different business mode.

There are more and more SaaS’s offering some services though, like implementation or some strategy or something, because they’re finding that on the top end, these make sense for retaining their clients/customers.

I’ve started calling this “Service as a Service” 😄

#general - March 11, 2024 at 04:06 PM

Absolutely would not do this in normal circumstances. Sounds like you’re struggling for work, so in your case, it may have made sense (and it looks like you tried). I’d press them hard for feedback. Let them know that you’re struggling for work, and tell them that any feedback they can give would be extremely helpful to you moving forward.

CONGRATS @Jimmy Daly (Superpath) ON BENNETT GEORGE 🎉

#general - December 14, 2023 at 04:03 PM

Please no more “what Barbie can teach you about marketing” posts!

#general - November 09, 2023 at 04:53 PM

I’m curious why?

#general - October 31, 2023 at 04:03 PM

@Joanna Bowzer i dont like the “until you’re happy” thing because it makes me question if you can. without it, i trust that you will.

#general - October 13, 2023 at 10:21 PM

Wow @Nikolas Wright, thank you so much for this! Our editors really stepped up for this project and have done an amazing job; I really couldn’t be prouder of them! We’re super happy to have you as a happy customer and look forward to a long and fruitful working relationship!

#general - September 28, 2023 at 04:16 PM

Yeah, we pay our editors based on number of words they edit and type of editing it is. We do also have to then really keep an eye on quality, because they could try to game the system by spending less time on each article in order to edit more words, and get paid more. But we’d have to deal with that on an hourly pay basis as well.

#general - September 28, 2023 at 04:15 PM

So each task is an average time unit.

#general - September 28, 2023 at 04:15 PM

I think you can still accomplish that without tracking hours tightly, though. For example, if you know that a brief on average takes 2 hours, then you can work out how many briefs a strategist can create per week.

#general - September 28, 2023 at 04:12 PM

Then you can deal with people feeling overwhelmed or under-utilized as one-off situations.

#general - September 28, 2023 at 04:11 PM

I’d do everything I can to get away from hours, simply because 2h by an experienced person might be 8h for a less experienced person. If you have enough data so far @Joel Klettke, I’d consider using that to audit your pricing and team productivity, then move to selling based on value and what you know a project takes on average. Then, as long as the work is getting done to quality expectations and on time, you’re good. It’s outcome focused instead of input-focused.

#freelance-gigs - September 15, 2023 at 02:35 PM

@Gary Magnone good to see you here, man. This is specifically what EditorNinja.com does, and we do it at scale for agencies 😊

#general - August 31, 2023 at 03:15 PM

I personally like 20+ though 🙂

#general - August 31, 2023 at 03:07 PM

IMO this is a matter of preference. Tell them what you want and then require it.

#freelance-gigs - August 28, 2023 at 01:55 PM

Hey @Alexander Boswell, I’d be happy to chat! It all comes down to what editing you need as to rates to pay. If you need technical SME edits then it costs more, if you need more classic structure/copy/proof then it’s less. Happy to share how we think about it (and charge for it) at EditorNinja.

#general - July 24, 2023 at 04:08 PM

I agree that it doesn’t make you get stuck. But not being able to sell more does 🙂

Good luck to you.

#general - July 23, 2023 at 04:19 PM

@Dominic Kent the market dictates what you can charge per piece. If the market says you can’t charge more than $1000 for a blog post, and you can produce 6 of those a month with the time you have, how do you then make more? You produce more; and figure out how to do it. The systems change.

If you’re at $2k/mo, sure, you can charge more. But at some point, it breaks and you have to change your approach.

Your take is how freelancers get stuck.

#general - July 21, 2023 at 04:09 PM

Most freelancers I see cap out around 5-8 pieces per month. If you want to make more, you have to produce more, which means outsourcing things that others can do for cheaper and concurrently with you researching/writing/creating

#general - July 21, 2023 at 04:08 PM

Self-editing is great. It just takes a lot of time, and when you’re being paid by the piece, it can, at a certain level, make sense to outsource.

#general - July 20, 2023 at 08:20 PM

Hi @Esther Akinsola we’d love to help you out at EditorNinja. I also know of a freelance editor who is currently able to take on work.

#general - July 13, 2023 at 03:20 PM

I am always happy to chat via DM here on Slack too, if anyone has questions and doesn’t want to hop on a call to connect first!

#local-colorado - June 15, 2023 at 08:26 PM

Wish I could make it!

#general - May 30, 2023 at 05:04 PM

Hey @Brionna!

How do you recommend handling NDAs with clients, especially when your workforce is primarily part time freelancers?

We have an NDA in place with our editors and I have no problem asking prospects to send me one that we can sign as the company to cover everyone, but sometimes I get pushback from prospects/clients insisting that the individuals sign them to. Thus far I’ve pushed back and said no, it’s not needed, but I’ve lost a deal or two because of it.

Any advice on how to handle this?

#general - May 23, 2023 at 03:12 PM

Hey @Craig Dennis happy to chat! Our editors at EditorNinja.com have edited almost 2.5m words (1500+ docs) in the last 17 months, including many that are 2k+. DM me and I can explain more and we can maybe chat if it seems to be a fit.

#general - March 25, 2023 at 08:54 PM

Their content lead wrote about it on LinkedIn recently

#general - March 25, 2023 at 03:26 AM

Teamwork has done this with their newsletter.

#general - February 01, 2023 at 05:01 PM

We’ve been doing a bunch of SEO content updating stuff, and now AI-generated content editing, but not repurposing of content. My friend James at https://trycastaway.com/ does it tho

#freelance-gigs - January 13, 2023 at 01:26 PM

Hi all, looking to speak with a few SEO write freelances who have experience updating content for SEO. This is for EditorNinja’s SEO Content Updating services. feel free to DM me and I will get back to you if it seems like a fit.

#local-colorado - December 24, 2022 at 08:02 PM

Hey Penny! I’m in NW Denver

#general - November 04, 2022 at 04:14 PM

Hey all. It’s a strange time in the world right now and it feels like things have shifted in the market in a similar way to the start of the pandemic in 2020.

I just posted a Twitter thread (and a LI post if you prefer that) about navigating this time with your messaging on your site.

Thought you might all get some value from it.

#content-collab - October 26, 2022 at 04:31 AM

Oooh I’d love to take part

#freelance-gigs - October 20, 2022 at 09:42 PM

Not applicable to this conversation. We’re not actively hiring editors for our regular offering either, so this isn’t something I am going to look at right now. Putting a note in my brain for someday later though

#freelance-gigs - October 20, 2022 at 07:42 PM

which application page?

#freelance-gigs - October 20, 2022 at 01:57 PM

If you are interested I need you to DM me, not the other way. I have plenty of interest and won’t go chasing those who don’t take initiative.

#freelance-gigs - October 19, 2022 at 07:03 PM

Hey y’all, I run EditorNinja.com. I am working out what an editing service for AI-written content would look like, and I’ve come down to fact checking, making it actually have a strong POV and arc, and making it extremely readable for readers (not just search engines).

If I rolled this out as a service (as a test at first), is there anyone here who would want to take a crack at being the first “editor”? TBD if subject matter expertise is needed, but usually the content we’re editing right now is very tech-focused.

#general - October 13, 2022 at 03:13 PM

Wow this is awesome. TY @Maggie Leung for the share!

#freelance-gigs - September 25, 2022 at 02:24 PM

Do NOT offer a discount for multiple months. It is very common to pay freelancers on a retainer. If you have to offer a discount to get them to buy, you are not selling effectively.

Outline what they’ll get each month. List of tasks, what you’ll do each week, schedule on which deliverables will be completed, etc.

Bill at the start of each month. Project starts once they’ve paid the first month. If they’ve not paid by end of 10th day of an additional month, pause services.
