My computer is one terrible wifi at a local restaurant and it's an older Chromebook and took about 7 seconds to load. Honestly, I've had far longer wait times to load on this dinosaur haha

#freelance-gigs - July 19, 2023 at 04:09 PM

It depends on the client!

For example, most of my clients are for articles and blog posts. So I typically spend 1 work day working on an article (1,500+ words and research, etc.)

I have approximately 12 full work days a month (because I only freelance part-time). So I can only take 12 projects per month. If I had 6 clients each wanting 2 articles per month, then voila!

But other people may have more intensive recurring clients that may make 6 unmanageable!

#freelance-gigs - May 31, 2023 at 04:42 PM

Been experiencing this a lot, too. Even though there are some great clients I've found along the way, I have had at least one break things off (in a very unprofessional manner to boot). And this channel has basically dried up, unfortunately. As well as several others where I have found great clients before.

LinkedIn is a blackhole because so many people apply for the same roles that there is almost no shot in ever hearing back from them.

So I feel your pain. We just have to keep on trying and growing and diversifying our revenue streams.

#freelance-gigs - May 20, 2023 at 02:25 AM

I've only ever had one client for LinkedIn posts, so I have no frame of reference.

But I do batches of posts at basically $10/post. But they always have me do 20 or so at a time and we have a good rapport. LinkedIn isn't their source of leads, so it's more from brand voice consistency and awareness.

So I think it depends on the clients goals and what you are comfortable with.

Two content leads, one c-level, one marketing director - those are my regulars, at least

#freelance-gigs - May 15, 2023 at 03:05 PM

I'd be in!!

#freelance-gigs - May 10, 2023 at 09:54 PM

I love Pollen and the whole team! Great people, great community!

#freelance-gigs - May 02, 2023 at 03:27 PM

You're a great friend for sharing this! Kudos to you, networking at its finest 👏👏👏 hope she finds some work this way!

#freelance-gigs - April 27, 2023 at 06:14 PM

I'll throw my own out there because it might hit that inspo kick for you. I tackle content marketing strategy, but by using a multidisciplinary approach.

So every week I take a principle, value, topic, etc. from a different niche or industry and apply it to content marketing.

Some topics so far:
-Video game industry QOL improvements
-The career of Seth MacFarlane
-Null curriculum from educational theory

Lots of focus on writing and content, but with some twists and turns along the way (concluding a two week hiatus after this week).

Okay - can you use this for a W9 form for contractors?? I have an older gentleman who has never had to do 1099 paperwork before and finding a way to get him to sign it and scan it or find his own way to eSign has been a gargantuan task

#general - February 15, 2023 at 04:06 AM

@Walter thanks for asking! https://dsmcontentforge.substack.com/

#general - February 14, 2023 at 06:28 PM

Not sure where this might go, but I'm basically hoping someone would be interested in taking a look at my Substack about content strategy from an interdisciplinary approach and give me some thoughts.

I write it pretty much as if I were having a conversation, I use lots of gifs, and I offer a paid version that opens up a section of each post that talks about concrete ideas and examples I've used with my business or that I've utilized with clients.

If that sounds like something you'd be interested in, then shoot me a DM. I'll even grant a paid subscription just for being willing to help!

#freelance-gigs - January 23, 2023 at 08:29 PM

💯 I don't need to send an explanation because most business people (or at least the sane ones) understand inflation is a thing, increasing profit margins is real, etc.

Plus, as you gain skills and hone in on a brand's voice, you should be expected to get better compensated for it as time goes on.

Most people are reasonable! So don't stress out too much!

#freelance-gigs - January 23, 2023 at 06:49 PM

Follow @Kaitlyn Arford ! She is posting opportunities every single week!

#freelance-gigs - January 23, 2023 at 06:48 PM

This is always a struggle! I have found, though, that if you do good work and don't raise your rates constantly that most clients are totally fine with it.

I've even offered, "Hey, I plan on raising my rates by $.05/ word over the next 6 months. Since I've worked with you, I am happy keeping you at our current rate until then. Or, if you'd like, we can stagger the increase over the next 6 months so you can adjust your budget as needed."

I've had a client ask me to do baby steps with them and do $.025/word increases at a time and I have had others say to go ahead and bump them now (which is always a nice surprise!)

Hope that helps a bit!

#freelance-gigs - January 18, 2023 at 03:51 PM

I'm not Canadian but happy to chat if it makes sense @Shanelle Weir

#freelance-gigs - January 10, 2023 at 02:36 AM

I have felt this way, too @Amanda Scheldt 😭

I used to have great conversations in the DMs and now it's just a ghost town (and they probably went with the writer offering the lowest rate and calling it a day haha)

#freelance-gigs - January 05, 2023 at 10:18 PM

@Koa Elder Dubsado has built-in time tracking but can also integrate with Toggl, I believe

#freelance-gigs - January 04, 2023 at 04:44 PM

I've been using Dubsado for a while. It does a bit of everything!

#content-collab - November 15, 2022 at 07:07 PM

Hey, @Dominic Kent so sorry I missed your reply yesterday! I took the day off for my daughter's birthday 😆

What are you working on in particular? Are you writing your own book to publish or working with authors directly?? (Either way, happy to chat, if a DM seems appropriate!)

#content-collab - November 11, 2022 at 06:07 PM

Does anyone here work with authors? I am wanting to offer " a week off" for people with blogs or websites geared towards authors and writers! ( a totally free blog post, no expectations other than letting me plug my newsletter at the end)

My focus is on unique marketing strategies for authors, especially self-published authors, who aren't even sure where to begin.

Feel free to DM me if this sounds like you and you wouldn't mind getting a week off in the near future!

#general - October 24, 2022 at 06:53 PM

I have started a creative endeavor that I posted about in <#C012AUSC85C|> where I am making Tabletop role playing game one-page systems. Is there anyone in this community who shares my nerdy creative outlet? I'd love to chat (I really love stuff like this and I would love to find someone who understands the overlap between content marketing and game design to geek out with haha)

#freelance-gigs - October 24, 2022 at 06:48 PM

I have taken podcasts and converted them into email content, blog posts, and social posts! And I've done some work in the ecomm and product marketing areas.

Let me know if a conversation makes sense @Justin Zimmerman

#freelance-gigs - October 17, 2022 at 02:13 PM

Happy to chat, I'd you don't mind a DM @Sam Schalop

#content-collab - October 16, 2022 at 05:53 PM

Happy to share! I've asked multiple people to be my mentor for different areas of my life.

I have always approached it like this:
1) Ask if you could take them out to coffee/dinner/lunch/whatever
2) Mention that it is for getting some feedback on insert whatever area of your life you want a mentor for*
3) Set it up, bend over backwards to make it as simple as possible for them
4) Come prepared to ask some solid questions in areas you want to improve in
5) Respect their time! If you agreed to an hour, plan accordingly
6) Mention something like, "I have enjoyed your insights and find that you are gifted in __. I would love if we could set a time to regularly meet and discuss __?"
7) "I recognize the need in this area of my life to grow and improve, and in looking for a great mentor to help me do exactly that. You are the person I want to give access to speaking into this area of my life."
8) Respect their time, wrap up when it is time, and (assuming they agreed) set up the next meeting.

I've had a mentor in my life for:
1) Spirituality
2) Business
3) Marital / Relational

And this is basically what I have always done. From there, I try to meet monthly for about an hour and come prepared to make the most of each meeting!

#freelance-gigs - October 04, 2022 at 05:32 PM

Shot you a DM

#content-collab - October 04, 2022 at 03:41 PM

Of course!

#content-collab - October 04, 2022 at 03:01 AM

An interesting question! I'm not sure it counts haha but I have always thought of sharing office spaces, working in public places, etc rather than getting your own office space as its own way I reduce my businesses carbon footprint.

And I hydrate with reusable cups and such, even when I'm out at a Panera or something.

In my home office, I typically work with the curtains open instead of the lights on.

I shut my devices down and keep them unplugged (mostly) when I'm not using them so they don't drain electricity unnecessarily.

I try to eliminate my e-waste by repurposing any old tech I can however I can as well as having it properly recycled when the time comes. Especially with chargers and cords. People are wayyyyy too wasteful with those things. I have one charger for like 4 of my Google/Android devices rather than buying a new one for each device. And then I just only charge or use one at a time. Heck, old useless cords have become craft projects or another form of rope or strap for semi-permanent structures for my kids rather than throwing them away.

Most of these are just regular habits I have developed, though, because I do try to "go green" as much as I can personally.

And I thought I wouldn't have much to say about this topic...yet here I am haha hope this helps!

#freelance-gigs - October 01, 2022 at 02:47 AM

I worked as a pastor for 4 years before diving into content marketing! Happy to chat if it makes sense for you!

#freelance-gigs - October 01, 2022 at 02:47 AM

I work with a Real Estate Investor who owns a business helping other REIs dive into SMS Marketing. If that seems at all handy info or expertise to have on hand, then I'd be more than happy to throw my hat in the ring!

#freelance-gigs - September 15, 2022 at 08:59 PM

I'm in the process of (re)publishing a book in print, two companions books in print at the same time, and publishing two books of poetry for someone else late fall. So I'm living and breathing some of this. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions

#freelance-gigs - September 07, 2022 at 06:27 PM

If you are still looking @Shanelle Weir I'd be happy to shoot you a DM. I don't to bother you if you already have a good fit, though 😊

#freelance-gigs - August 31, 2022 at 03:49 PM

@David Bell if you are still looking for help, I have been writing some of my own TTRPG rules and have been a game enthusiast since I was in high school (my parents had a special room dedicated to holding all of their games growing up haha)

#freelance-gigs - August 02, 2022 at 06:39 PM

Do you mind if I DM you a question about this @Kaitlyn Arford?

#general - July 27, 2022 at 04:54 PM

Well it wasn't "reading" so I thought it should go here instead 😆

#freelance-gigs - July 18, 2022 at 09:53 PM

Shot you a DM @Justin Dunham!

#freelance-gigs - July 12, 2022 at 05:54 PM

No one really has yet, but I have the original Google Docs in both "my copy" and the edited copy they publish. So I am fairly confident I would be able to prove it if they ever did!

#freelance-gigs - July 12, 2022 at 01:53 PM

I primarily ghostwrite.

So I use Contently for all the pieces I get permission to share publicly. And I ask for permission to share articles privately.

So having Contently helps me have some kind of portfolio while still ghostwriting.

#freelance-gigs - July 11, 2022 at 06:40 PM

These are all great points! I'd say the most important factors are SEO requirements and expertise of the writer.

If you are thinking $500 per post as a budget, then that is probably worth considering as well. Some may be willing to accept less for regular work, too. (I know I do haha)

#general - June 20, 2022 at 07:36 PM

And I super appreciate that!

I was just asking to make sure I'm not just being weird about it. Like I said, if it makes sense to move to the DMs, then I don't mind.

But I'm glad to know my line of thinking is in line with the community guidelines! Maybe I'm not TOO crazy after all 😉

#general - June 20, 2022 at 07:33 PM

Thanks for this @Jimmy Daly (Superpath)! That's what I thought.

I'm not getting anything too bad. I just see a lot of people DMing without asking first in other channels and wanted to double check!

#general - June 20, 2022 at 06:11 PM

I have a question about expectations here on Slack.

How do you all feel about getting a DM without requesting a DM? I don't mind it if I have been having a conversation with someone...but to get one out of context (typically followed by a reply in a thread "just sent you a DM"

Not gonna lie, it drives me nuts haha. But am I the only one?

I always ask if someone wants me to shoot them a DM or invite them to send me one, etc. Or it is clear that I'm asking/talking about a potential collab/job/etc.

Am I crazy?

#freelance-gigs - June 17, 2022 at 09:04 PM

Just shot you a DM @Camille Hogg - thanks for getting back to me!

#freelance-gigs - June 17, 2022 at 07:54 PM

Hey, @Brian Casel! I submitted a form - but was wondering if this was an employment situation or contract work! Forgot to ask that on the form and thought it might be helpful to clarify for anyone checking out this thread!

#freelance-gigs - June 17, 2022 at 07:27 PM

If your friend needs to spread around some of the work between a few freelancers, let me know if I can be of help! I don't do whitepapers, for instance, but can help with web copy and blogs!

#freelance-gigs - June 17, 2022 at 07:26 PM

Happy to throw my hat in the ring @Emre Kavaloglu - let me know if you want me to DM you anything!

#freelance-gigs - June 15, 2022 at 06:08 PM

Hey there, Roxy! I have written for a tech company about AI and data science (as well as hardware) for almost 2 years. Happy to help if I can!

#general - June 14, 2022 at 06:50 PM

As a freelancer, I would be interested in giving it a shot.

My only hesitancy is there is so much that goes into a page ranking that I can't control.

But it's an interesting thought.....

#general - June 14, 2022 at 02:45 PM

If I have felt that my writing needed a story, then I have just connected with fairly universal experiences.

"Imagine you are walking down the cereal aisle at the grocery store..."

#content-collab - June 13, 2022 at 04:49 PM

People prefer "snackable" content not because of their attention span, but because they can quickly intake, reflect, and implement on bite-size pieces of content.

Especially, in marketing, the turnaround time to implementation needs to be simple and effective. Snackable content makes that possible. Little tweaks that can be tracked and put to good use right away!
