Possibly @Matt Koulas?

If they can help with resources like the Freelancers Union does with trying to reduce health insurance and more, then I am game. Mine drops EOM and I haven't gotten a quote under $500 per month for myself. π«

Hey @Chloe Thompson I am very interested to help. I will email you shortly!

Yes! I am currently in a fractional role and I like it. My own complaint is the hours are not as consistent as I wanted them to be and things can change at the drop of a hat. It may just be the org I am working with. However, the team is great and the mostly steady income again is nice. I believe fractional remote roles are going to be a great thing moving forward in the freelance/contractor space.

I hate to say this but none at the moment currently. Often I would say SaaS or Cybersecurity, but even that is struggling right now. Q4 is typically M&A seasons for a lot of companies.
#freelance-talk - September 11, 2024 at 06:18 PM
I have gotten some leads and great convos. However, the full ROI is not there yet for me with some of them yet that I pay to subscribe to. In reality, I think a lot of it has to do with the market right now. This is similar to what happened in 2020 when I joined the industry after my own lay off. There is a larger amount of folks that have to keep things financially a float in a weird economy. My hope is the next year or two looks similar to what 2021/2022 looked like for myself and many of us here too... As in FULLY BOOKED monthly. π

@Sydni Williams-Shaw this is right up my alley. Was late to get in on applying this opportunity. If something falls through, would still love to help with this need. Thanks!
#freelance-talk - August 23, 2024 at 10:54 PM
I have worked primarily off referrals and word of mouth the past 2 years and I am still also struggling. I even picked up a steady part time gig to supplement. It's still barely enough to support things financially for myself. I wish I had a better answer for you right now.
I've decided this week I am quitting the majority of this all once I land another FTE role back in cybersecurity. It's been an amazing 4 years in so many ways and I will always continue some byline publication work plus blogging. But I am getting whip lash and motion sickness from the rollercoaster of this market lately.
Even if I am the best and most experienced in the space option available, there will always be someone who can do it cheaper and faster than me, especially including AI lately.

@Becca Thies would love to work together! I will DM you!
#freelance-talk - July 23, 2024 at 06:19 PM
Hard pass.
#freelance-talk - July 22, 2024 at 06:52 PM
Yes. For some companies in more highly regulated industries such as cybersecurity, some will require it in order to move forward to ensure it reduces the third-party partnership risk.
#freelance-talk - July 11, 2024 at 10:14 PM
At least $3k would be the minimum for me as well. I would probably charge closer to $4K honestly. But I am also in a highly technical niche as well, so that plays a bit of a factor for me.
#freelance-talk - July 02, 2024 at 04:23 PM
It depends on the client and their preference. For some of my smaller startups they don't care either way. Some say yes, others say do what you want. It hasn't impacted any previous FTE roles I had either. However, I do add the publications I am working with on a freelance basis given that it a byline in the first place.

Happy Wednesday expect that one person. ππ
I needed that laugh so much today. Totally feeling the squeeze here this week. Anybody else exhausted?!
#freelance-gigs - June 26, 2024 at 01:52 PM
Hey @Claire TrΓ©vien, do they have a pay range they are looking to stay within for this opportunity? Thanks!
#freelance-gigs - June 11, 2024 at 08:49 PM
Hi @Roman Hresko what is the base rate and how can freelancers apply to this gig? Thanks!
#freelance-talk - May 31, 2024 at 01:23 AM
I experienced myself this with a larger media publication I pitched previously in the security space. I'm sorry, but that's going to be a no from me. There are too many talented people out there also looking for work daily that cannot afford to go backwards in income for just any opportunity. Companies need to pay people their worth. Period. And for those who do, thank you.

Still in recovery mode and moving slower than I wanted to today from my birthday and holiday weekend! π

Hi @Zartasha Musthtaq. I am interested in helping. Can I DM you?
#freelance-talk - April 05, 2024 at 02:20 PM
While this may be a bit defeating to see because that was your hard work and name behind it, when you leave a company that is their intellectual property at the end of the day.
When I was laid off in 2020 from my one former employer, I had a ridiculous amount of internal technical content and user documentation I could have used for samples that would have helped me land more clients. However, I had to relinquish my stake in it since I was no longer an employee.
My former director told me that she would vet me if there was ever a question on the validity of my samples being me vs. someone else in the company. But unfortunately, you cannot always help how others may perceive samples from your previous employer.
I would still use the sample in some capacity if you can, and anyone questions that weren't you or your writing, then that's on them, not you. You can offer them a test project so they can get a firsthand experience of your style and flow of writing. But that doesn't always pan out as we hope it could. Don't diminish your talents when others try to question or minimize you. They likely still won't be the right client to work with you.

#freelance-talk - March 15, 2024 at 06:29 PM
It's been an absolutely bonkers week. This is exactly why I tell people these freelancer relationships are a two-way street. I've gotten flack because I prefer outlines and briefs in the process. I am always willing to take accountability if I fault short. I'm not perfect. Nobody is. But sometimes I also need to stand my own ground too.
If someone comes to me for work needing something like threat intelligence or another super niche thing to write that I have a lot of knowledge on, this would be the only real instance I feel confident enough to not have something in the workflow process to ensure everyone is on the same page. Only because I absolutely hate backtracking a lot in the process.
It's only been with clients I've worked with for years or in something in my more expert knowledge wheelhouse that I have the level of confidence to eliminate some of the processes eventually because there is more trust, rapport, and confidence between all parties.

No worries. I am happy to reach out. If you want to provide a warm intro. That would be great too. I'll DM my email.

@Liz Melton did they provide a budget? This is my lane.
#freelance-talk - February 16, 2024 at 05:53 PM
@Theresa H sorry if it's confusing. Ultimately, these tools, whether you pay for them to scrape data for you off of LinkedIn to provide leads for more cold outreach or you know how to data scrape yourself, are against the TOS of using LinkedIn. At the end of the day, it's always going to up to you and your business needs, but I just share as a precaution for when people choose to spend your money on these things. It's important to weigh not only the cost but the liability that can come from using these tools.
#freelance-talk - February 16, 2024 at 02:43 AM
Typically, automated widespread scraping then aggregated into the tool.
#freelance-talk - February 15, 2024 at 08:55 PM
These are typically tools that will data scrape the site for you. There are ones for zoominfo and crunchbase too. I don't recommend using these types of tools. It borders an ethical issue around data privacy and intellectual property.
#freelance-gigs - February 14, 2024 at 08:22 PM
@Liz Elfman I will be in contact. This is up my alley for writing work.

Hell yeah @Jen Phillips April! Can't wait to listen.
#freelance-talk - January 25, 2024 at 03:50 PM
@Dan Moran, I would set a consult with a tax pro to confirm how to file it, if you can. In my experience, I typically bill 99% of my international clients through my invoicing platform. That way there is no extra paperwork or steps for me (or my tax accountant) to do during tax time. It is all included in my 1099-K from my invoicing program. It's one of the perks I love about some of these invoicing platforms. They make everything much easier for everybody when it comes to taxes and things.

Hi @Rolf Mistelbacher, this type of content is in my main expertise. Would love to help. Will send you a DM with some samples and info to connect with me. Thanks!

I use stripe for both foreign and domestic clients. I love it.
I am going to look into Wise or another similar platform. Just need to weigh the pros/cons of it all.

My handle is my blog and creator profile @theglamtechie everywhere, including threads. I just forget so often to post there.
#freelance-gigs - December 15, 2023 at 05:19 PM
Hey @Jules Davies. I would be interested in chatting with you. I curious what type of SEO you are building for SaaS companies. Would love to collab possibly, but want to make sure we would be a good mutual fit. Thanks and looking forward to chatting.
#freelance-talk - December 14, 2023 at 02:49 AM
I have had this happen to me multiple times. in the past year already. To the point, I had a fellow freelancer (I will not name names because that is rude of me) literally sit on a company webinar that I was on previously and listen in to everything I was sharing. They have pitched me multiple times since trying to have me funnel any extra work to them.
This is an immediate one way ticket onto my blocklist. If you just admire what someone is doing tell them, don't pitch them. It's tacky and lacks understanding on their business, clients, and needs.
Plus, as @Amanda Henry mentioned, this borders online stalking issues. We are self-employed business owners, so people need to start acting more like it. This shouldn't be just a passing hobby or an opportunity for someone to think they can steal clients from somebody.
#freelance-gigs - December 13, 2023 at 05:38 PM
@Matt Koulas - not sure if this would be up your alley. But he's who I would recommend.
#freelance-talk - November 10, 2023 at 04:17 PM
Hey @Theresa H, would be more than happy to help. Feel free to DM me!
#freelance-talk - November 09, 2023 at 06:24 PM
Absolutely! I would be more than happy to take a look.
#freelance-talk - November 08, 2023 at 10:41 PM
Without seeing your resume directly (and don't necessarily need to unless you want to share privately), the best thing I would recommend is see where you can condense things into smaller sections. Ideally you can focus the key expertise markers from all of those roles and then list the companies you were a practitioner of these skills for multiple companies. You can write it out similarly like this:
Content Writer
β’ Skill Marker 1
β’ Skill Marker 2
β’ Skill Market 3
Company 1 & dates of contract/employment
Company 2 & dates of contract/employment
Company 3 & dates of contract/employment
Hopefully this gives you an idea on how to condense it into less without taking away from your core skillsets.
#freelance-talk - November 08, 2023 at 09:19 PM
Yes! Most ATS (applicant tracking systems) look for specific keywords and such. I have my resume condensed to 1 page and I embedded links (even in the PDF) of some of my author byline pages and notable projects. Most of my network in HR I have talked to said shorter and tailored resumes are best these days.
