Seconding @Erik Dietrich! Wanted to add that the "let's pretend you won't work for me forever" line is essential.

I once had the pleasure of working on a content team with writers from all different backgrounds. There were magazine people, TTRPG, a translator, and even a romance author (me). When we talked about our career paths as writers (not employees), it was clear that everyone had desires and goals. What was missing was insight on how to develop the skills (and what they should be period) to get from A to B.

Serious question: If you're reading through curated job listings and one is from a company known to be exploitative of workers (or at least is heavily rumored to be), is it your responsibility to inform the person running the job board? I'm talking like a curated-by-a-human job board.

Normally I'm not for spreading rumors AT ALL. But I know people sometimes want to know how a company's perceived on the street. Thoughts?

1. Updated LinkedIn and took skill assessments to boost visibility.
2. Writing updates for every network.
3. Adding to my latest poetry project with the idea of releasing it early.
