Highly recommend Nick if you would consider a freelancer. Based in Australia π
#local-australia - June 15, 2023 at 04:08 AM
Yep - manufacturing and industrial companies are my jam. How about yourself? π
#freelance-gigs - June 14, 2023 at 11:54 PM
Hi Jules, do you know what kind of volume your client is looking for?
#local-australia - June 14, 2023 at 11:51 PM
Hi @Dan Siepen and fellow Aussiesπ I mainly do retainer work for around 8 clients, so I'm trying to smash through a bunch of July content at the moment π
#freelance-gigs - June 06, 2023 at 12:15 AM
@Lindsey Tague my work is pretty much 100% word of mouth; most clients are in a specific church group that has a very strong networking vibe so that's usually how people find me.
#freelance-gigs - June 04, 2023 at 10:46 PM
I've lost 1 client who said they'd only be using AI going forward. However I've also gained 3 new clients recently. All my work is retainer work so I've come out on top. I also write for a client in the US (I'm in Australia) who has specifically asked their writers not to use AI at this point.

I built my own as a showcase of what I can do π
but def use Authory as well. Sometimes, especially when pitching content work directly to a contact, it makes sense to just send them directly to writing samples. If there's potential to help them with other bells and whistles I'd send them to my website instead.#freelance-gigs - February 15, 2023 at 08:24 PM
Love it! Here's mine - I like how you can categorise content and just send a prospective client stuff that's relevant to them

Hi from the Blue Mountains! I see Lyka's FB ads a LOT π
#intros - February 01, 2023 at 10:26 PM
Hi from the Blue Mountains! π¨
#freelance-gigs - January 11, 2023 at 12:26 AM
Another vote for Authory
#freelance-gigs - November 22, 2022 at 10:25 PM
@Alamin Farhatt 100% of my work over the past 3 years has been from word of mouth referrals - I wouldn't know how to start pitching! π I do see all the work as I am typically uploading it to their blog as well.
#freelance-gigs - November 22, 2022 at 01:12 AM
I'd never thought of it that way Linsey - I only ghostwrite, so my work is everywhere but my name is nowhere. π» Totally get that you need to protect your personal brand... good on you for having strong boundaries!
#freelance-gigs - November 21, 2022 at 10:50 PM
Hey Linsey, this has a whiff of SEO about it; I have a client at the moment who is trying to achieve google publisher status where they are super focused on creating a body of work by individuals. I'm only on the periphery of their business and not privy to much of the 'why' behind it but I know they have put a lot of focus on developing the online presence of individuals in the business to support the SEO push of their site.
#pets - October 15, 2022 at 09:25 AM
This gorgeous ball of fluff is making it very hard to concentrate on work today! π₯
#freelance-gigs - October 11, 2022 at 09:07 PM
Awesome Julie! He definitely knows his stuff π
#freelance-gigs - October 09, 2022 at 08:26 PM
Julie, I highly recommend @Dusan Vicovac π he's a professional welder and a great writer!
#freelance-gigs - September 21, 2022 at 05:06 AM
I have a client like this at the moment Linsey and he's hard work. They are a great business, pay well, have a good product etc but the constant education about how much we can actually impact with content is wearing me down. I feel like every time we talk I'm having to prove the value of what I'm doing, despite repeatedly explaining that content is a slow burn, it could be 6-12 months at the minimal rate we're doing things before we see any strong traction. Also, I'm a content writer and have explained that several times, whereas I think that he thinks he's hired a technical SEO person. I do a bit but I'm sure as heck no expert. I'm kinda torn between 'he's a good client with potential' and 'I'm sick of proving myself and it's all too hard'.

Just sent you a connection request on LI Faith π
#freelance-gigs - July 20, 2022 at 09:10 PM
Yep, hi Dusan! π I write content for construction, industrial and manufacturing businesses
#intros - July 19, 2022 at 12:16 AM
Hey Brody! I'm in Sydney but used to live in Sunrise Beach π
Welcome!
#intros - July 07, 2022 at 11:36 PM
Hi James! I specialise in industrial & construction too. And have a client that fabricates large commercial steel sheds here in Australia π Happy to connect
#freelance-gigs - May 12, 2022 at 04:50 AM
Actually I think it's a hidden group - let me see if I can friend you, invite you, and then we can unfriend if you like π
#freelance-gigs - May 12, 2022 at 04:47 AM
@Claire Deane try 'Find-a-Finder's-Fee (GLOBAL) group on FB, it's very active with tons of journo/PR/media types on there π
#freelance-gigs - April 27, 2022 at 05:55 AM
I don't have capacity right now but just wanted to jump in and say that's awesome that you work with ConvertKit Claire, it's a great platform!
(Also - happy for another zoom catch up any time!)

@Heather Van Dyne?
#general - April 05, 2022 at 03:08 AM
Industrial & manufacturing is my jam π I've definitely seen improvements with clients - for example we're working through Marcus Sheridan's They Ask You Answer approach and it's really starting to get traction for Steelcorp
#pets - April 04, 2022 at 04:13 AM
Thanks @Nneka Otika - you're right, I probably need a cat grass farm in my office lol
#pets - April 03, 2022 at 05:17 AM
All the plants in my office have chew marks
#freelance-gigs - March 23, 2022 at 11:25 PM
Oh awesome Julie, window cleaning and roofing is totally my jam π I'll email you
#freelance-gigs - March 06, 2022 at 09:30 PM
This is awesome. I have a 'smile file' - a folder in my inbox of all the lovely comments I've received from clients
#freelance-gigs - February 28, 2022 at 10:05 PM
Yes, religiously! I've used Toggl since I started freelancing.
I'm a bit of a people pleaser so find it helps to know when I've topped out at my agreed amount of retainer work for the month. If my retainer covers roughly 20 hours a month and we're climbing past 25, I know I can take a breather and rearrange some tasks to fall into the next month. Clients don't necessarily know this; it's just how I arrange my work internally.
I also track 'admin' time which covers invoicing, my own marketing, updating my website - all that jazz - just to see how much time I'm spending 'on' the business vs 'in' the business.
Also... trying to get better at taking the time to do deep work and not context-switching constantly, as illustrated by a typical day... It's a work in progress!
#content-b2c - February 25, 2022 at 12:30 AM
This is awesome - I have a client looking to develop a knowledge hub so I'm definitely using this as inspo!
#freelance-gigs - February 15, 2022 at 10:04 PM
Following π
I've never actually asked for upfront payment, I'm like you Femi and finish the job before invoicing. If its a regular gig like a few blog posts per month, I'll invoice on the 1st for the previous months work
#general - February 09, 2022 at 01:38 AM
No worries peeps π
#general - February 08, 2022 at 11:03 AM
Hey Nneka, I saved this a while back π
#pets - February 03, 2022 at 09:30 PM

Hey Cody, you can take a look at mine, right at the bottom of my website
#freelance-gigs - January 28, 2022 at 12:29 AM
Yep. That's why this group is so great, I can bounce things off other overthinkers π
#freelance-gigs - January 27, 2022 at 11:44 PM
π
so true Julie. Or a notification at midnight: 'your timer has been running for 12 hours'. oops.
Thanks for the info Sam, your graph is awesome. I haven't done this by client or by category, but I just look at it overall each month. It sits at about 94% if I look at revenue - expenses, but after my own wages/drawings and tax and yada yada, its about 60%. I think it's this number I need to keep an eye on.
#freelance-gigs - January 26, 2022 at 10:24 PM
Hey awesome freelancers - does anyone else track their overall GP% & net profit %, and are you comfortable sharing? I'm finding as my business grows my revenue is going up but so are my expenses, so just wondering what a good target is for a content writer. My whole career has been client side in manufacturing where 30% margins are pretty standard however obviously it is vastly different for a content shop with very small overheads. Cheers
#freelance-gigs - January 11, 2022 at 09:17 PM
Thanks Julie π yep it's a good place to be! Although I'm still approaching it with trepidation because I don't want to commit to working with someone then have a slump or a quiet patch where I can't pass on much work. This is the catch 22 I guess!
#freelance-gigs - December 24, 2021 at 12:56 AM
Yep @Karandeep Arora there's a free version, I use paid mainly for the billable rates feature, as it gives me an accurate snapshot of how I'm tracking for the month
#freelance-gigs - December 15, 2021 at 01:13 AM
@Karandeep Arora I've used Toggl every day since I started freelancing - I find it helps me concentrate and also looking back at quoted time vs actual time means I'm getting better at estimating how I schedule in jobs, as I understand where my time goes
#freelance-gigs - December 12, 2021 at 09:30 PM
I'm at 8% this year - thanks for the nudge to review this number! I do all my own accounts/admin/blogging/ socials too, although only post 1 article a month and don't advertise at all so my socials are mainly just maintenance; I schedule posts for ~3 times a week.
I track initial conversations with leads as client work, tagged with their company name. That way, if a project moves ahead and I know I've already spent 3 hours on zoom calls and strategy/thinking time, I can build that into the invoice
#freelance-gigs - December 02, 2021 at 01:47 AM
@Anfernee Chansamooth I watched this yesterday - love your framework!
