@Jimmy Daly (Superpath) I’d also love to know how people are measuring content ROI if they work at B2B companies that have high ACV / long sales cycle. In my case, I can measure ROI on our lead magnets and webinars but assets like blogs are incredibly hard to measure or even address from an attribution standpoint.

As a cybersecurity content marketer + writer, depends on what I’m writing. If the blog is driven by SEO strategy with the objective to rank (and doesn’t need deep technical research or opinions), I charge less. But if I’m bring asked to write blogs that need me to digest + research thought leadership topics through SME interviews or even leverage my own experience, then I charge a higher rate.

For me, it’s more about the mental workload I have to devote to writing the piece. More workload = higher rates. Less workload = cheaper rates.

Hey everyone - I’m looking for a B2B freelance writer for some on-and-off work with my team. I work in B2B cybersecurity, so you don’t have to be an expert in the field but you should know your way around cyber terminology. Here’s what I can provide you with:

• Message mapping exercise that a branding agency did to showcase how we are shifting our approach to marketing
• Clear briefs from Clearscope (see what I did there…)
• Whole lot of existing examples on our website that the powers that be are happy with
• A bunch of existing sales enablement material and directions to other resources that might help with research
What I’m looking for: someone who can follow the brief, ask good questions and clarify up top so there is minimal need for “this is not what we meant” conversations later, you’re good at self-editing your first draft so we are editing for content. You might also be writing blogs based on a podcast — these are not transcriptions, but rather a blog written based on the salient takeaways of the episode. I will provide examples for what good looks like in every case.

Question - for a c-suite ghostwriter, specifically for social media, what quotes can I expect to manage 3 platforms? We are looking to add 1 freelance consultant and I was asked to source some quotes so we have determine budget.

Scope would be to post content that the VP is highlighted in, repurpose blogs into social media, and just overall manage their platforms.

Any thoughts?

@Leanna Lee @Suman Sridhar You know, I wonder if it's also that when you price it at $0.20-0.35, people might think the stuff being written is really worth $0.1-0.15 at best. But if you price higher ($0.50-1), they're like, "Yep, that's great. Let's start."

@Suman Sridhar Yeah, I'd say it's pretty reasonable for me and since I have a FT job, it's good enough. That being said, I've seen so many freelancers charge upwards of $0.5-$1/word. It gives me hope too, but at the same time, I'm just like ...how are you doing this? Like what's the secret?? 😂

It's definitely frustrating for me too. I've reached out to so many calls for freelance writers for a rate of $0.20/word and legit get ghosted.

Many of those companies are also tech companies expecting some technical language, which can take up a bit more time to get right compared to writing longer pieces that are iterations of "The Guide to XYZ" but still assume they can pay $0.10/word. Well, okay, but they get what they pay for in that case.

I work with a freelance writer at my FT role and he charges per project, but ad hoc his prices are $1/word. It's still worth it for us and he's damn good at what he does because of his product marketing background.

My FT role has been in content marketing + strategy for the past 6 years and I've written blogs, white papers, ebooks, etc. within fintech and cybersecurity.
