One of my biggest struggles has been around a portfolio. Some make it on a Google Doc, some make a fancy ass website. Some make a functional Notion page (like yours truly)
To the ones who eventually invested in a banger portfolio, did you see a ROI jump? Or should I just keep updating my Notion?

I think of mine basically as a display of my work; doesn't need to be fancy. I've seen some writers who literally just have a page with a list of links, and they're ranking high for their niche.

From the client's perspective, I never care. I care way more about the relevance/quality of the samples. Notion page would be fine

As someone who was a freelancer/consultant and now hires freelancers/contractors:
Don't stress about the portfolio. I just hired a video editor and three graphics people for different projects. I spent about 15 minutes collectively looking at all the portfolios.
I paid more attention to how they communicated with me, how they asked/answered questions, and the relevant samples they shared.
The fundamental questions that I as a buyer seem to be asking as I search out and hire contractors are
• "Can I trust this person to deliver what/when they promise?"
• "Have they worked with people similar to me on problems similar to this one?"
Relevant samples (google doc, notion, dropbox link, whatever), a testimonial that speaks to the problem they worked on ("They got us on-brand b2b video content on a tight timeline!"), and the ability to have a conversation are all signs imo of a good fit. Better than anything I'd look for/find in a banger portfolio.
