Hello everyone, I want to create a content calendar for a company (I've never done this before). How do you approach finding topics to write about/give it to writers to write on? I am really stuck with finding ideas. The topics I find are too competitive for a new company to rank. Any tips and suggestions are welcome!

For topics you can start with.... your marketing goals.... what your audience needs, and.... current trends in your industry.

For what your audience needs/questions they have, you can do an indirect market research on forums like Reddit. If you spend time there and on the right sub, you will see some questions gaining traction. You can turn those into topics.

And about some topics being competitive.......... if you think you can come up with a different and convincing perspective, go for it.

I’ll start with customer pain points and industry trends.

You can also get ideas by spying on your competitors. What are they doing?

Also, i’ll look through trends on forums and answer questions (Quora, Fb, Slack and Reddit are good for these)

I find success in answering questions people may have, not necessarily SEO related terms, but questions that can be answered by your teams and any research you’ve done at the company. And agree with Reddit conversations as inspiration. You can also join FB groups around the subject and see what hot topics come up frequently there.
