I'm looking for a couple of freelancers [all industries and roles] to share their best tips for creating and maintaining a strong personal brand. Any recommendations? Volunteers? Whom should I talk to? Thanks! Link back guaranteed.

The only advice I have to share is to just be real because people can smell BS even if they don’t say it out loud. A lot of people parrot the same “I am a professional XYZ and can supercharge your business goals effortlessly and I am the best” yada yada yada and that just doesn’t cut through the noise. Let your work speak for itself. Real does business with real and fools do business with fools.

Developing a genuine connection through your words/actions/putting in sincere effort in your work is powerful and leads to stronger client relationships which snowballs into referrals, more awareness by other clients and ultimately a stronger personal brand so that you have people coming to you because you have built that reputation through sincerity and hard work.

A lot of these “personal brands” with a huge number of followers are fabricated and have built a facade, a lot of the guys who are actually making big bucks are doing so silently because it’s less about the show and more about the work for them. Just my 2 cents and how I look at it

@Alexandra Cote Grizzle's blog editor, @Erica Schneider has just released a course on this based on how she built her own personal brand. She might be a great source!

I teach a lot about brand building and brand strategy, including to solopreneurs who are their brand. I’d echo being authentic, and add that it’s important to define what you want to be known for and work to build that narrative.

Too often there’s a disconnect between how others perceive / introduce you and what you want to be known for, and you need to take control of that in your personal brand.
