Is anyone here a trained journalist (ideally with B2B experience) who would be open to 1-2 (paid) mentoring calls?

I would love to get better at:
• Getting in touch with sources & doing deep research -> Goal is to create in depth case studies
• How to get better at consolidating this information & writing -> I don't have a writing background and not being a native speaker doesn't help😅

Hey Nikolas, I did a diploma in freelance journalism before I got into content marketing.

In the real world, turns out things were quite different!

I offer freelance mentoring calls, too. You can book one here if you think it’s a good fit: https://www.theautonomousfreelancer.com/coaching

I’m curious, @Dominic Kent , about the diploma in freelance journalism. Care to share?

It was what this course has evolved I think: https://britishcollegeofjournalism.com

I did it self-paced online from 2012-14. It was fun to learn about journalism and writing as someone without any real world experience, but I wouldn’t recommend to a seasoned writer.

I’m sure it gave you a jumping off point. But in 12 lessons it’s impossible to cover all a college journalism track provides and that’s why you found it lacking once you hit the pavement. That said, it looks like a good resource to recommend to those looking to learn the basic mechanics of writing. I’ve talked to so many new freelancers who struggle to retain clients and when I look at their work, it’s because they lack the ability to even write a paragraph, let alone sequence an entire article. Thanks for sharing. I’ll bookmark to recommend to newbies.

I am a breaking news editor with over a year's experience. What do you need?
