If you all had a garden outside your home office window and you had the full room to yourself,
would you keep your workstation
a) facing the garden and the outside OR
b) facing the wall with the window on your left/right side?
And explain your choice with your WHY

Given my current desk configuration (Stand/sit desk, 2 external monitors on brackets/arms), I'd have the window to my left or right. My monitors would block any view I had if I was facing the window.

I actually had this exact choice to make! I have the garden window on my left side. But that’s because I like being able to easily open/close the window, and my cat likes to sleep under that window sometimes.

If this is your actual setup, try both! And see what you like 🙂 Where the door is, what direction the light is coming from, etc. all make a big difference in this setup (i.e. I can’t work with my back to the door of a room, so that would vary my answer here)

I would probably choose looking out at the window. I like the idea of being able to look up from my work and see the outdoors.

I have my desk looking out the park below my house. Honestly, just looking at the greenery makes my day, so I'd go with the first option!

I agree with Melissa's choice. I have a sliding glass door on my right but there is no balcony, only a railing since I am several floors up. Needing to stand up to see outside gives me a reason to stretch and blocking the window would put me in the bad books with my wife and my dog. Same two monitor set up

I have two windows that I can see out of because I have my desk angled. Otherwise, monitors would block my view. Out one window I see the driveway, so I know if anyone pulls in. Out the other, I have flowers and bird feeders. When I’m stuck or tired or just need to think, I watch the birds.

Facing the window - the lighting is so much better and I get to see outside

Thanks for the engagement folks.
I moved my desk to wall facing and window is right next on my right side. Just need to turn my head to look out.
The wall (not window) is better for me to stare-think as it's a single featureless color as opposed to constantly looking into my garden where views are often punctuated by movement of vehicles and people on the other side of a wall with a shared residential complex... Or stray cats
