This might be a silly question, but is there an industry standard or most common way of measuring DA that we think most people submitting HaB2BW are using? My company uses Semrush and when I search for DAs to validate, I get much lower numbers than what's usually in the posting.

Erik Dietrich January 09, 2024 at 07:14 PM

I believe DA is Moz's proprietary metric, vs DR (domain rating) for ahrefs, and something similar for SEMRush.

As for normalizing them against one another, I think that'd be difficult

Erik Dietrich January 09, 2024 at 07:15 PM

If you're evaluating a group of sites for authority, to prioritize them, I think the most important thing would be to make sure you measure all of them with the same tool, rather than worrying too much about which tool is best for this.

Yeah Semrush is "Authority Score" but I guess I'm just surprised to find such a big delta!

Erik Dietrich January 09, 2024 at 07:17 PM

FWIW, we keep metrics on a large inventory of properties, and track their DA (Moz) and DR (ahrefs). In the overwhelming majority of cases, the scores correlate with each other. DR is usually a higher number than DA, but if a site has a high DR, it almost always has a high DA, and vice-versa

Here's a random sample of those where you can see DA/DR for anonymous domains:

Major discrepancies happen occasionally, but are less common

The Help a B2B Writer submission form specifically mentions Ahref's tool, so most submissions (including mine) probably use that data!

Deedi Brown January 09, 2024 at 07:20 PM

Oooh that is the insight I needed Melissa, thank you! I have never submitted, only responded

Melissa King January 09, 2024 at 07:20 PM

It's this page specifically (just switched myself from mobile to PC): https://ahrefs.com/website-authority-checker

Melissa King January 09, 2024 at 07:21 PM

And no problem!

Erik Dietrich January 09, 2024 at 07:28 PM

That's probably the best one to use, since I believe ahrefs DR is the most backlink-centric score of thetools.

Melissa King January 09, 2024 at 08:46 PM

Nice! That definitely sounds like it aligns with everyone's goals most effectively.

Hi @Deedi Brown

This might steer away a bit from your query. But I just wanted to add my thoughts.

I'd say not to look at DA as a metric to evaluate an opportunity on any website. An ideal way to assess website would be to look into the incoming traffic to the website and it's relevancy to your audience. This will help you pick quality over quantity.

DA and DR can be easily manipulated. To get a clear understanding of backlinks profile of a website, you should manually their backlinks profile in SEMRush/Ahrefs, etc.
