In short, it feels expensive to do because it's hard to track the impact immediately and directly, so it can be hard to convince those holding the purse strings to approve influencer marketing. However, they're part of a greater ecosystem and can be switched in or out depending on your goals. The ideal inbound or organic marketing strategy would involve organice reviews, some paid influencer posts, on-site and social content of course, as well as basic press coverage.
In my opinion, influencers are an important lever for brands who want to be taken seriously, trusted, and build via referrals. This may not be right for all companies but I've seen success in terms of leads, upselling, and trust-building for both B2B and B2C companies.
