Hey all - Our team is working on an article for
on how to ask someone to be your mentor. There’s a lot of super obvious advice out there already, but I’d love to feature some real opinions. So I ask: How would you go about asking someone to be your mentor in a non-weird way?I’ve posted the question on Terkle but the responses weren’t the best. I’d love to get yours!
P.S. If you’re okay with it, I’d love to attribute the tips in our blog with your name and a link to your LinkedIn and/or website.

Happy to share! I've asked multiple people to be my mentor for different areas of my life.
I have always approached it like this:
1) Ask if you could take them out to coffee/dinner/lunch/whatever
2) Mention that it is for getting some feedback on insert whatever area of your life you want a mentor for*
3) Set it up, bend over backwards to make it as simple as possible for them
4) Come prepared to ask some solid questions in areas you want to improve in
5) Respect their time! If you agreed to an hour, plan accordingly
6) Mention something like, "I have enjoyed your insights and find that you are gifted in __. I would love if we could set a time to regularly meet and discuss __?"
7) "I recognize the need in this area of my life to grow and improve, and in looking for a great mentor to help me do exactly that. You are the person I want to give access to speaking into this area of my life."
8) Respect their time, wrap up when it is time, and (assuming they agreed) set up the next meeting.
I've had a mentor in my life for:
1) Spirituality
2) Business
3) Marital / Relational
And this is basically what I have always done. From there, I try to meet monthly for about an hour and come prepared to make the most of each meeting!

If you still need quotes, happy to contribute. Also, this article I wrote may be nice to pull from:
