hi folks, need a help. I need to understand how phrase “software house” is understood by US natives. could you write down your first thoughts when you read/hear it?

a software development agency?

it's not a phrase I've heard, but I'd also think something like a software development company/ agency

the phrase doesn’t bring anything to mind, but if I stretch it to “house of software” i think of a traditional store that sold software as CDs

Not a common phrase no.

Not a turn of phrase I've heard, but if someone said this to me, the first thing that would pop into my head is "non-native speaker that means 'software shop,' and is describing an agency that does custom software development."

I am not familiar with it (I also asked my boyfriend who has worked in IT for about 10 years and he isn’t familiar with it). When I first read the term I thought maybe it would a company that develops and distributes software OR an online platform like zapier
