I agree about the 'in hindsight - a waste of money'.

I was just quoted $800 for a USPTO search (which I can do myself) or $3k for more comprehensive searches beyond USPTO.

@Jesse Tilner my main sticking point is 'unregistered use' that poses a risk for acquiring a TM (which is outside of USPTO).
Even if a brand does not own a trademark, if it has been selling a product by the same name on some random website, that could cause my TM application to fail.

I'm not looking to apply for the trademark just yet.
More like paying for early stage research for whether our new product name has a high chance of acquiring the trademark, should we choose to apply for it after the product gets traction.

They lean toward an 'every body is different and can respond differently' approach, and give as much supporting evidence of us using quality ingredients/manufacturers as well as demonstrating that we really do care about customers and product quality.

Supplement brands: Have you dealt with a 'Customer Complaint – Food Safety' case from Amazon?

We just had a customer write a review that their heart rate increased after taking our product, so we need to respond to a bunch of Qs otherwise Amazon will deactivate our listing 😬 (very scary)

These are Amazon's questions:
1. Has this product/formulation been subject to a recall in the last twelve (12) months? If yes, what actions did you take to address the recall?
2. Based on investigation, what is the identified a root cause for this issue?
3. If you identified a root cause, please provide a corrective and preventive action (CAPA) plan and timeline of completion. Please also attach documented proof of plan/completion.
4. B. If your product is a Supplement: Please provide the HACCP / GMP / GFSI / Product Enrollment Program certificate or Food Safety Plan in place.
Please attach the certificate or documented program indicating if biological and chemical hazards are assessed. Please note: the plan date must be within the last 3 years. If the required documents are not available, please justify why
5. Please provide the manufacturer's best contact information to share with concerned customers.

If you've dealt with this kind of issue before, do you have any advice on how to approach this?

How do you pitch 'whitelisting' to a creator in a way that makes sense and is compelling to them?

We are thinking: 'Earn consistent and predictable income each month by creating content that promotes our products, and we'll pay for ads to promote your content'.

When a gifting influencer says "I'm interested, send me more information", what do you do?

Do you:
a) send them a big email about your product, how it works, why it's great for their audience, and how they can earn affiliate commissions
b) send them a very brief email with blurb about the product + link to product page
c) send them a very brief email that links to a influencer-only page with all the details about product and opportunity for the influencer
?

We are just starting out with gifting influencers and need to build out a process.

Do you offer discount codes for your customer affiliates?
We've had a number of customers ask if we have an affiliate program, and until now we haven't (I know I know, we are 5 years late 😅).
I'm considering allowing our affiliates to earn 15% commissions, and offer 10% discount to people they refer.
But I'm wondering whether offering 10% discount can be damaging for the brand because our customers would then be unhappy with ever paying full price.
Is it normal to offer a discount code to customers who want to be affiliates?
(for context, we are mainly in the supplements space)

Has anyone managed to sell from USA to Canadian customers affordably?
We find that a lot of Canadians add to cart, but they don't finish the purchase because of the huge shipping and customs/duties fees.
At cost to us it's $23 USD to send their package from USA to Canada (includes customs and duties).
We don't mark up that cost to the customer, but it's still a huge cost in their eyes and some mention that the USD is stronger than CAD so it's even more expensive than it looks.

Has anyone managed to solve affordable shipping from USA > Canada customers?

This is the first time we are manufacturing a product in China, and we don't have sales yet (because we haven't launched).
Portless looks awesome but they only take on clients that send 1k+ orders per month, so they won't accept us at this pre-launch stage.

Do you know of an alternative to Portless to ship from China direct to consumer?
