Does anyone have experience with acquisitions where the main assets are IP? e.g. a physical product with a U.S. utility patent and proven demand. I'm looking for a broker or similar. Thanks!

What happened to the Canadian channel? I have questions for my fellow Canucks.

wouldn't it be less risky to pivot acquisition to sell to new markets versus overhaul manufacturing... given that the tariff policies change weekly...

Hi everyone, can you let me know if you have any favourite "Linkedin influencers" ; funny or contrarian people who have built a deliberate following? Similarly, recommendations to hire someone like this for a specific campaign/brand. TIA

best to measure what people do, not what people say. Create a landing page and smoke test if possible

@Raúl Galera yes
#marketing-creatives-lp - March 11, 2025 at 07:37 PM
agree, the onboarding is garbage. no cs response... they must have a cash cow situation bc the new customer experience is horrendous

i will checkout UpViral. Tried Referral Candy but it lacks email signup as a reward trigger. Thanks!
#marketing-creatives-lp - March 07, 2025 at 07:15 PM
has anyone used Viral Loops? I'm setting up and email referral campaign... they have almost no reviews on the Shopify app store but I feel like they've been around forever? Alternative app recommendations?

Anecdotally, I've found brands with higher price points are converting more customers via email than paid channels. They require nurturing and email is a great place for the customer to make those considerations.
Rather than a 1k/mo person, I've had great success using Claude to generate a series of campaigns that build on each other along a typical conversion cycle (e.g. 30-90 days of campaigns). Takes 1-2hr/mo. The key is giving it high quality data, objectives, objections, etc. about your persona.

Hey everyone. Hope you are all hanging in there
I'm involved with a project that is a purpose-driven marketplace to help Canadians buy Canadian. Unlike Amazon, Shop, etc this platform will enable users to shop by values that are important to them - whether that's Canadian, sustainability, small business, etc. The mission is to bring back the direct connection that we have between customers and sellers... people! Make it less transactional and more mission-driven and human. No ads. Minimal commission. We're starting with Canada to ride the wave but it will be international.
If this sounds interesting to you, please send me a DM // comment your ideas // or simply sign up at ! I'd love to have some LS fam as founding members :)

Thank you for these tips. I'm afraid to respond again and end up kicking the hornet's nest.. I think enabling new content to outrank it would be better. I will check out those tools. I know it's a fine balance bc redditors will flag immediately when posts are not actually organic.
If anyone knows a freelancer who is a Reddit ninja, that'd be ace 🥷
#general-chat - January 13, 2025 at 03:47 PM
we responded professionally within the thread, but the negative headline prevails...
#general-chat - January 13, 2025 at 03:32 PM
Does anyone have experience managing your brand's reputation on Reddit? There is an old post from a disgruntled customer, since resolved positively, that continues to get the top spot on Google 😔
#general-chat - January 10, 2025 at 09:05 PM
What is the price point? I assume when you say interest, you mean willingness to purchase.
If the price point is high, I would want something much closer to checkout (take my money) than a waitlist sign up or giveaway. Especially if you run paid ads. You could run a standard ecom funnel on Shopify but just deactivate checkout or shipping settings so that it throws an error. Then you'll know which people are actually willing to put their credit card info in. You could then follow up with a "sorry, glitch sold out, put you on the waitlist" email.

Does anyone have resources on litigation financing? I have a strong defective merchandise case but unfortunately you have to litigate before you see any retribution. My legal costs are adding up.

Highly recommend @Charles Tichenor IV videos on Youtube about facebook ads. One of my favourite tips is to automate a text-only email note from you, the founder, to every customer after they place an order. Thank them and ask briefly what got them excited about the product? Then use those words in all your ads.
#ops-finance-funding - November 15, 2024 at 12:28 AM
Oh, also, Shopify is not the direct underwriter. It’ll be a lender doing Merchant Cash Advance in your local market. You could potentially qualify for a different offer if you find out who they are and go direct.
#ops-finance-funding - November 14, 2024 at 11:56 PM
I have. No complaints. Repayment is transparent, and is relative to sales $$ - which is great from a cash flow perspective. Note that if you have a lot of returns, your repayments are still tied to gross sales, so leave allowance for that. They will auto-approve you for optional top-up or re-financing so long as you continue to qualify. It was a great option for me with no credit history after relocating to the UK.

NextSmartShip is quite cheap, so long as your inventory moves relatively quickly. Customer service is slow due to the time difference but overall fair value.

check the channel too as there was a convo about this... and I believe a Shopify rep said not to do what I did lol
#general-chat - November 04, 2024 at 04:31 PM
Yes, the "medium" ones.
#general-chat - November 04, 2024 at 04:19 PM
I noticed an uptick of "medium" fraud risks this year and did nothing. None of them ended up being fraudulent. The high-risk ones, though, do tend to be fraud in my experience.
#general-chat - October 31, 2024 at 03:53 PM
if it's self-funded, my 2 cents is you should aim to be first order profitable. Unfortunately a lot of fb ad conversations are still tethered to the venture-backed DTC bubble of 2016, investing big on projected (imagined) LTV. Ignore that paradigm until you have your own sales data to back it up. It will seem challenging at first - forcing your creative and funnel to be excellent, but it will save you from overspending on ads that are not sustainable. Pay yourself first. MSRP - COGS- expenses = target CAC

up 30%
#marketing-paid - October 31, 2024 at 02:49 PM
@Dipesh Kataria Depends! ...on how sticky the hook and how aligned the ad is with the offer. We do 3-5x ROAS 3.5% CTR
#general-chat - October 29, 2024 at 06:30 PM
i think it really depends on who your best customers are and if they have time and interest to be in a community like that. Mine are busy execs and so I find 1 to 1 emails much more effective in nurturing brand loyalty and feedback.
#marketing-paid - October 29, 2024 at 01:14 PM
sure, here's an example

One thing that works great for my (premium) bag brand was what we call UGC lite. Make a video ad with a compilation of images/videos that could have been shot by customers with fantastic aesthetic/taste. It provides social proof without the low quality, problem-solution trappings.
#marketing-paid - October 25, 2024 at 08:29 PM
Q: Can i increase my fb ad budget while in learning phase without disrupting it? If so, by how much?
#email-sms - July 26, 2024 at 04:28 PM
We do everything in Klaviyo because there are more customisation, personalisation, app integration options that way. I agree if the number of sends is high, Shopify would make more sense

Hey @Anja Varnicic, congrats on your upcoming launch. As someone familiar with hydroponics, the product's use case is clear from the first image. I would advise thwo main things:
- the colour palette/graphic design to me reads "children's toys" and would align more with your tech-forward solution if it were more cohesive. One tip i found helpful is to pull a photo from nature that you love and extract the colours in Canva / other.
- The copy language is not customer centric. It's written from the POV of the engineers/designers. Have you ever heard a customer say "gee i wish this plant app had advanced automation and gamification" ? Instead, in regular people words, what is the benefit the customer receives from a plant app that's actually fun/motivating to use? Another value prop could be - going on holiday knowing your plants are thriving, etc hope this helps and good luck
#general-chat - July 03, 2024 at 05:27 PM
i actually don't have these problems, was just a research question!
#general-chat - June 20, 2024 at 06:21 PM
POLL how much would you pay monthly for an inventory forecasting tool that aligns your inventory buy 50% more closely with demand versus whatever tool you use now (reduces waste and/or anticipates sellouts)?
If this is painful problem to you, can you tell me your category / why?
Is there a current solution you recommend?
#marketing-creatives-lp - June 13, 2024 at 09:32 PM
I use mega community for this. might be worth a look if you also want to offer exclusive content, community, etc
#general-chat - June 12, 2024 at 04:05 PM
Check if any of your local banks can offer US-based accounts (with a US address). This was the best solution from a similar thread talking about CAD to USD. (One of our banks, Royal Bank, offers a US-based account if you go in to a branch to apply...) Then you can withdraw using your existing Aus Paypal acct without converting (might need paypal support to connect the acct)

@Alex Wilsher thank you! I will try that. Haven’t changed anything on site or setup, just 2 more recent campaigns that have the problem.
#marketing-paid - June 09, 2024 at 09:56 PM
Facebook question: Historically, I've had very accurate conversion value metrics (amount in FB matches Shopify) but recently they're MIA ($0). What might cause this?
#marketing-creatives-lp - May 27, 2024 at 05:49 AM
In my experience, "high risk" tends to be pretty accurate. "Medium risk" has never turned out to be fraudulent.
