Hi All, We have an incredible database of customers in the UK for the style and size of business we are but we are trying to build a stronger community. Can anyone suggest anything they have done thats positively and significantly helped to build a community out of your customers for Ecommerce specifically?

@Tom Bell i'm also interested in this. The major competitors in my space have a facebook group

but my customers are typically female and middle aged - which leans into facebook

for community building we always make facebook groups for our brands, we have one that now has reached over 170k members so its a very strong channel to build over time.

Thanks Leonardo.. Can you tell me a bit more about the 'how' and 'what' you did that made it work? We have toy'd with doing a group but its for a wine brand and not sure how willing people would be to join a wine brand group

Hey Tom, We took a slightly different approach. Rather than focussing on our business as the centre we focussed on a concern of our customers and built the community around that. As we built we were able to recommend things we sell as a bolt on to the other advice we were giving

We need to make sure we create a space where people share, our products are usually arts and crafts brands, therefore there is the DIY element that makes people proud/excited to share what they made. Need to find an agle that makes sense for people to share tips, results, knowledge or moments

Our approach to community building is untraditional because our target group are mature men who don’t like sharing stuff online.

We are by now the most crowdfunded fashion brand in EU and it feels us with joy and competitive advantages. We raised €3m from 1,217 customers via SEEDRS and Crowdaboutnow.

67% of our investors say they main motivation for investing was that they “wanted to help Kasper and Lotte”. And they truly do help - especially with spreading the word.

Last year I made this ppt about how we are building a community-first business.

Customers own 28% of our business, but more importantly its an AMAZING way to build community. We have events in our stores and we do tons of stuff with the “investors” - they field test new prototypes, volunteer for fitting sessions, help us find a new accountant, a cleaning company for the Copenhagen store, etc.
