Hey Y'all - had one of my affiliates use their own code today on a purchase. Would you typically exclude commission on that order or am I being cheap?

Note: we pay a larger commission on 1st time orders than 2nd. So definitely a money loser on this order if I pay out.

I would let it go and update your onboarding to be more clear about using their own code with explicit penalties.

If they do it again I would bring it up and third strike kick them out

Thanks for advice @Dan Staub - would you typically let them use their code if they wanted to order themselves? And just exclude commission or just total ban?

Dan Staub June 07, 2024 at 02:58 AM

After the second time they’ve used and still had no other conversions from others, I would ban yes

Sorry I wasn't being clear, are you ok with influencers using their code but just rejecting commission? Or do you usually advocate total abolition of self-useage?

In my experience i've always removed commissions from self orders. Self discounts depends on the structure of the relationship with the affilaites.

if youre not offering them free product, it is common to let them use their own code to get discounted product.

@Michael de Lyon we've always prevented creators using their code - all of our programmes involve keeping creators stocked up and giving them a separate discount code for audience.

For programmes where the brand has multiple products and the creator wants to try another SKU, we'll either send for free or heavily discount it so it's being sold for COS

Hi @Michael de Lyon if you want to use your affiliates to drive sales in the gyms you are in, we can track attribution and pay out commissions for these sales using our digital coupons.
