Curious on any thoughts on what a reasonable salary range would be for an e-commerce operator?
-Revenue around $4 million annually
-Operator has perview of all areas of the business
-Actively manages 6 part-time employees.
-Full-time, onsite role.
-Been at company for 11 years
-Central Texas
Would this person be the highest in the company “employee hierarchy”? Or reporting to a CEO?
Reporting to CEO/Owner.
Just as a point of reference, I asked chatGPT how much the CEO of a $4-million revenue company should make. Here’s the response:
“CEO salaries can vary widely based on several factors, including the size and profitability of the company, industry standards, and the CEO’s experience and qualifications. Typically, CEO salaries for eCommerce companies can range from a few hundred thousand dollars to several million dollars per year. For a company with $4 million in yearly revenue, a CEO’s salary might be in the range of $200,000 to $500,000 or more, depending on the specific circumstances and negotiations. It’s essential to consider additional compensation elements such as bonuses, stock options, and benefits when determining a CEO’s total compensation package.”
Divide by ~2 and you have an approximate salary for an eCommerce operator in your scenario.
Thanks.

Might be able to do lower salary if they have equity too. I imagine they are probably interested in equity already if they’ve been with the company that long?
@Christopher Youngblood of course hard to gauge without knowing equity etc, but I would not be surprised if in central texas this is $140 - $170K ($4M revenue being the main driver here in my estimate).
$160-$180 if VP of Ops/GM level.
^ this is def on high side for the average similar role in TX.
Rule of thumb for total salary for all employees: not more than 20% of total revenue.
