I find it extremely unlikely for someone to do business with you or invest in you just because of your likes, follows, or content (articles, videos, or even a book). In the eyes of your clients/investors, what matters the most are your results and what you can do for them.

The “problem” with these grants is 1) They are very political. You are at the mercy of the administration to continue receiving payments. 2) They monitor your finances and progress rigorously.

My wife has raised a few millions for her business through these grants. She is the CEO of a nanotech startup. Most these funds are granted to businesses doing science that is in the interest of US government (dept. of energy, defense, etc).

I have heard of these “guarantees” before. Once you enroll and pay their fees, they create a marketing plan for you. According to that plan, you must spend another $5K/mo on ads. If you choose not to do that, it is considered that you do not follow the plan, therefore no refund for you. This is the reason why they don’t reveal the “how” part. Read the contract carefully, before you give him your credit card number.

Instead of: “Forestyle is raising 500k to extend our runway by 18 months.” say: “Forestyle is raising 500k to double our earnings, increase total users by 30%, etc.”

Pitch the outcome - what that investment will do for the business. If I’m an investor, I don’t want to give you money to make you live another day. I want my investment to make a massive impact on the business. Feel free to DM. We can talk more.

Hello everyone 👋- One of my dear friends is going through a crisis. His co-founder is trying to force him out, in any way he can. He has already talked to two lawyers. Before starting a legal war, he wants to talk to someone who (in his own words below):

• Has been screwed by their company on an exit and taken to court. Doesn't matter if they won or lost, I just want to hear about their experience.
• Is in the VC or financing world who sees startups and how they operate behind the scenes in this type of legal situation.
